Bye vRS - Hello Golf R

Featured Replies

Looks lovely OP, be interesting with that Stage 1 remap :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had my R Estate since March, I can't honestly see the need for more power! The only place I can use the power is on the Motorway, but even then only for a few seconds as you're quickly in license losing territory.

My next car will be something much less powerful I think, at least I think I'm getting the need for power out of my system ;)

Maybe a DSG map would be good for you?

thats my next thing, a custom DSG map to suit my requirements and driving style.

currently:

Drive = all about economy, changes up way to quick and the engine is always to low in the RPM band if you want to make a quick manoeuvre.

Sport = I feel have to apologise for being a k**b head for driving down the high street slowly, with light throttle at 4,500 rpm

i want sport mode to be something I can drive around it all the time, VAG need to take a lesson from BMW in that department.

just a quick Q, when my DSG box down changes from 3rd-2nd in normal D mode, it's quite snatchy. It's similar for 3rd-2nd but not when going up the gears or not when down shifting between any other gears - have you notice anything on yours?

compared to the vRS the gear change is more aggressive and quicker but that results in less smother changes.

if I switch to manual mode or sport mode the issue isn't there.

Does it come with ergo comfort seats?

Really like the R but I needed the boot space and really liked the VRS. What was the cost difference between the 2016 VRS and the 2015 R?

From a dealer / trader A 2016 vRS TSI DSG Would cost you around £18,000 ish, mine had ACC and a few other things which bumps up the price probably to around £18,500 - That's with under 20,000 miles.

I paid £21,500 for the R with the same mileage - although as standard the Golf is better spec'd (with the exception of Lane assist)

Both cars are in truly immaculate condition.

The seats grip you better at the side than the seats in the vRS, it's the first thing you notice when you get in it.

Enjoy it, awesome bit of kit; miss mine sometimes.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have had this 'issue' (in bold above) for a while now - I have a 2014 vRS DSG.  I haven't seen others post about it though.  I've asked the dealer about it three times, and last time they applied a software update.  It hasn't remedied the problem.  The 'drop-off' for me between 3rd and 2nd on the downshift when in normal "D" mode is very severe - it feels like you are driving a manual and you've just dropped the clutch; it's quite embarrassing sometimes when other people are in the car.  I'm sure they think I've launched onto the brakes too hard.

Cheers,

Johno.

That is not right, I have had an Octavia, GTi and now R all with DSG and never had any issues with the box, changes are so smooth up or down that you never notice them - in Normal or Sport/Race.

If this happens all the time then get a master tech in the car and take them for a drive to show the problem

Nice when you can afford this swap. Many people can barely afford a car.

Exactly like mine, feels like part way through pulling the clutch from 4th to 3rd it just dumps it.

ive done a mechatronics reset and learn but no difference. It's not horrendous just noticeable.

if you go into manual mode and slow down from 4th gear, but don't change down yourself - let the box do it does it happen then? Mine has no probs with this - only drive

If you use manual mode and slow down and let the box change down itself the 'drop off' is no where near as severe - in fact, in a lot of cases it's not noticeable at all.  So, by a long way, the problem is most noticeable (and annoying) in "D" auto mode.  And in reply to Octavia5, yep, took the head mech out for a drive twice and they insist there's nothing wrong (they actually have tried to explain it away as being just the super sensitive brakes that the vRS has).  In the absence of physical evidence there's a problem, and no computer fault code to say there's a problem, I'm in no-man's land.

Xpower, if you find a resolution, please let me know - and I'll do likewise.

Thanks, will do

I suspect a DSG remap will solve the issue as it will adjust the point of downshift, I'm also probably going to have 'blip' RPM on downshift which means the RPM matches the lower gear better.

not curing the fault exactly but never being under the conditions where it snatches.
