Help with Media

Featured Replies

Hi There

I have just bought a 2014 Octavia Estate.  I'm having problems with the Media , in particular in selecting "Source"  When I go into this section the only options which are live/selectable are Aux & BT.  I can't select USB, SD or CD.  I recently had an Octavia hire car and when I plugged in my I-Pod (on a dual USB/Aux cable) it let me select USB and then displayed tracks, info, track selection etc.  Now I can only select Aux and I get no info on the screen but have to operate it manually from the I-Pod.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I make these sources live?

Thanks in anticipation

They will become active if you plug something in.

I did, it didn't

I have an i-pod on a dual cable, play and charge, one in Aux and one in USB.  When I used it on the hire car and selected "Aux" nothing played, when I selected USB it played and the display options, tracks etc appeared.  In this car it simply plays, there is no display and the i-pod has to be operated manually to select or change tracks etc.

Thanks though :)

I assume play and charge means the USB is power only and audio via aux cable. Have you tried just a USB stick or an SD card?

The car hire car will have had version 2 (otherwise known as MIB2) of the stereo unit (assuming 64 plate or later) , the 14 plate will have version 1 (MIB1) of the unit, with less functionality.

Unfortunately you can't simply swap the headunit for a v2 one, due to component protection.

So, does that mean that I need a different cable or does it mean that v1 won't allow me to have track info, change tracks etc on an i-pod?

We get enquiries about these old iPod things every now and again. I don't think they work properly in the Octavia with the earlier MIB1 stereo unless you have a Mitsumi socket and cable. The stereos changed from MIB1 to MIB2 around May 2015.

Have a read here:

Alternative is to copy your music onto a suitably sized SD card or USB stick using the mp3 create feature in iTunes. SD card or USB must be formatted FAT32 though, not apple or NTFS.
