I'm sorry to ask this directly, but there's 44 pages in the "what can you enable with VCDS" thread :-0  and some of the answers are hard to find. 

Is it possible to enable "media command" (remote control of media functions) as an afterthought via VCDS and can the dealer do it? 

Although it's "only" an 85 quid option, it's the option that is going to tip me into the higher road tax band, and thus cost me an extra £1900!!!!   So, i figured if I can leave it off and pay something less than £1900 to have it enabled later, I'll be quids in

This has been asked before and the answer is no, it cannot be enabled with VCDS or other derivatives.

Technically the dealer can do it as it's a SWAP control (downloaded from the Škoda server) but you'll be extremely fortunate if you can find a Škoda dealer willing or even able to do it if it isn't shown on the server as part of the car's original spec, regardless of how much you're willing to pay.

 

On a personal note; I have Media Command and if I were to order again it would be among the very first things I'd cross off my wish list.

thanks for the extremely informative answer... i must admit, i was struggling to see much value in it, other than perhaps being able to quickly load destination details into the satnav from phone contacts... 

AFAIK Media Command now comes standard on Amundsen and Columbus Systems:

No, the key word is "optional"! Some have confused Media Command with SmartGate.

If your phone contacts have addresses then they are available in the Nav destinations when your phone is paired.

Coming from a Superb II RNS Columbus to a Superb III MiB Columbus I spent an hour or two entering all my contacts manually only to find them all duplicated when it downloaded them automatically from my iPhone.

Yes correct, hence the edit above. You still get some functionality like controlling whats playing on the connected tablet but cannot control the infotainment from the tablet (I had a quick play with it and thats what appears to be happening).

You can also do this from the SkodaConnect app.
