Just the BREXIT vote did this much damage.  The assertion that it is going to be a hard BREXIT drove the GBPUSD further from 1.3 to around 1.25.

Hopefully the US chooses to lower interest rates in the next few days and that should then weaken the US dollar ie strengthen the pound in comparison.

What a load of libdemoboIIox , so the pound finished down 0.4 cents to the dollar on the day. Not an unusual day to day movement.  Thank goodness you are not the chancellor, you would be ****ting bricks every other day.

Maybe you think a strong pound is a good thing

Exports just got a tiny, tiny bit cheaper today.

Which are more important, imports or exports?

I expect land values and jobs vacancies have been boosted.......

in the British West Indies

(  £arage to be in charge of the fancy dress nights............JRM would make a wonderful undertaker, after all someone will have to look after the result of excess  )

sooo much valuable comedy material......it surely can’t go to waste.

Lee01, they are looking for spin doctors, especially those with a nasty, bitter temperament and a vivid imagination, basically Campbell mk2. Thought of you.

I only have a 'nasty bitter temperament' towards people who, despite the facts, still support brexit.
Those kind of people must really, really hate their children if they want to make them poorer and remove their freedoms and rights.
Those kind of people must really, really, hate having immediate access to life saving isotopes for the treatment of cancer.
Those kind of people must really, really hate having JIT manufacturing and access to the biggest market in the world on their doorstep.
Those kind of people must really, really hate the UK to want to trash it for blue passports and a feeling of sovereignty.
You're not one of those kind of people though, are you?

There’s not much more than can be done in this post rational era.

If only the plebiscite had reflected the desires of all instead of those most motivated to get what they wanted for themselves.

Do not know if you are still working but my job is the customs analyst in the UK for one of the ten largest international logistics companies and therefore we are in the business of importing tens of billions pounds worth of goods per year.  We also do a fairly equal amount of exporting which is unusual as Britain only exports about two thirds of the value of goods it imports.  Hopefully those firms who do the smaller amount of international trade ie exports will benefit but that is going to be difficult with no deal BREXIT, 10% customs duty on cars in to the EU and about 3% average on others goods plus over £10B of admin cost suddenly become due on the 44% of UK trade that is with the EU.

85% of trade is valued in USD so it is far and away the most important trade currency.  More import taxes means higher prices on the shelves unless the Con government go through with their proposal to not collect VAT on imports, and duty on many items, but that means the loss of about £10B of cash flow to add to the 1,900 billion of national debt which has been doubled in the last 9 years.

So to answer your question imports are far more important than export for the man on the street in the UK as the Con government has let industry die on the vine with UK finance firms being the priority clearly.   If the Cons really cared about exports they would prioritise a deal even if that meant having the backstop in place and passing the withdrawal agreement.

Not sure why I should argue against hard BREXIT in my job as we are one of the very few industries that will hugely step up our turnover with BREXIT ie four times as many customs entries.  Firms such as Allport, Bollore, CEVA, DHL, Expeditors, Fedex, Geodis, Hellmann etc.  Sadly no super large logistics companies in the list are UK owned.  A pound that is stable and in balance is good, at around 1.5 but at around 1.2 USD/GBP it will, is and has added hugely to inflation which has added to the pain of 9 years of Austerity with few people having had rises above RPI in that period.

I doubt If the heavyweight Brexit pushers will suffer much from a weak £ .......the farmers might even survive.

The ‘leaders’ of third world countries don’t seem to suffer much either.

Learn from your mistakes.

Makes elections representative of the entire voting age public.  Whatever it takes

Swallow your pride and learn from others on this simple issue.

when you keep shooting yourselves in the foot, consider not putting another bullet in the gun.....it’s simple !

We are nearly there and will have the next PM this afternoon.

It is Britain Trump according to The Donald or was that supposed to be British Trump.

Maybe a new thread later on like 'Who will be the next Prime Minister and how soon?' would be in order.

We like first past the post. Like Horse Racing the second horse rarely wins the big prize. Not so good for SNP, DUP, Greens, Lib Dem or Plaid Cymru. Can't please all the people all the time.:tongueout:

Are you now arguing to make party leadership elections mandatory for people not part of that party?

Well he is the 3rd person to have a go in 4 years so what are the odds he can drag it out until 2022 when the next Election is due.:emo:

Anything can happen, Toby Young bigging him up on the telly presently.

I just see the crowds and individuals cheering and supporting him in the same way as i see those supporting Donald Trump,

they must have a want. (Scottish meaning of a want!)

We don’t care what the party signs up to but allowing accidents to keep on happening is simply evidence that reform is beyond you.

You can be assured our conservatives would love to have your system..........winding up a significant minority is all it takes and Rupert is more than happy to assist in the process.

In the third millennium public discourse has been nothing more than a lowbrow shouting exercise.

Having to vote made easy for all and with down the ticket preferences will get you something genuinely legitimate in terms of reflection of the will of all the people.

Americans are beyond help with their chronically biased system, but you aren’t.

You won't get much return on odds he's gone by this Christmas.

Odds are higher for us leaving on Halloween :D

Unless he can somehow spin a compromise as a triumph of his savvy (best bet) it’s a hard Brexit which his party won’t support....or will they cave?.
