Oil temperature

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

New in here and a new superb 2010 owner... I have a question regarding the oil temperature. First of all my country, Sudan, is a hot country as these days the average temperature is 40c. On this climate, is it normal that my oil temperature always on the range of 105-110c? It does sometimes reach 112-115 but didn't go beyond that. Would it be normal to drive on that oil temperature?

Welcome.

Mine can reach over 100c on a hot day (in the UK) and as your temperature peaks at those figures and does not keep rising I would think it is ok. Somebody more technically able than me will give you a more qualified answer.

Welcome.

Sounds good be it a petrol or diesel engine.

Quite low if it was a diesel considering the ambient temp there.

The trouble with the oil temperature gauge is it gives you something else to worry about ,it also  makes you realise how important the oil is

I'm in the UK and during prolonged heavy use in the summer months when it's 30 degrees outside I've seen mine go up to 114 degrees on several occasions so I wouldn't worry too much.

Is it a petrol engine,

and do you use 5w 30 oil or 0w 40?   Anyway, the oil temp indicated is not high.

Sorry guys been away from the web.. Thanks a lot for your replies.

It is a petrol 1.8 Turbocharged with a 150k km on clock, so I guess that oil temp is normal after all.

If you may allow me, I have another question about the oil consumption as mine seem to to consume lots of oil!

My plan is to change oil every 3000 km but the low oil light comes on  after only 1000km and I need to refill again.

No sign of any leakage at all. No white smoke out of the exhaust. Any Ideas what could be wrong? if any.

Some versions of the 1.8 TSi petrol engines are known to have a big problem with excessive oil consumption - Google it and lots of information will come up.
