DTUK box in a TSI vrs 245?

Featured Replies

Had a quick chat with the guys over at DTUK today about fitting a box on a new TSI vrs 245. They say it will have a noticeable effect, but I'm wondering if there's anyone here who has done the same - on the petrol engine - and what they thought of the results. Cheers

Weird if it did not have a noticeable affect, or those selling it said, waste of money avoid it!

Why not just Remap if you own it.

Have you had it on a dyno yet to see what power you get from it.

Did the DTUK guys not offer to dyno it and then lend a box so that you and they knew just what the box was going to give extra?

Good suggestions, thanks. It's on pch, so wanting something I could remove as needed. Early days, just figured I'd see if there's anyone on here who already tried it.

Even though 'not traceable' as people claim,. obviously it is because you need to declare to your insurer, and if your car fails or are in an accident, even parked up and need recovered the tuning box is fitted.

Costly if others own the car and you have to stump up because the Warranty Underwriter does not.

Most DTUK owners on her rate the boxes very highly. They have multiple maps so you can set the power increase to your liking. You can fit it yourself within 20 mins and remove it whenever you like or if not happy. Unlike remaps the boxes can be resold, minimising the cost.

Sure, they will not provide the ultimate power of a remap, but you'll get ~80% of the fun for a lower price and with the benefit of DIY.

Yeah, true. I'd definitely declare it to my insurer. I've read it only adds around £30 or so to the premium

- finally, getting older has its perks.

I have a DTUK three channel box on my 320d , sorry not driven a petrol cars for decades.

On previous cars I’ve had an early DTUK tuning box and wasn’t impressed as it was very crude in its power delivery. I got rid of that and went for a Superchips Bluefin which maps the car from a handheld unit via the odb. This was good but had an issue accelerating from a steady throttle. Superchips were really good sending me slightly different maps to cure the problem but couldn’t resolve it so refunded me. I then went for the custom remap which was very good.

I wasnt going to tinker with the BMW but the three channel DTUK tuning box came up really cheap so thought why the hell not. I’ve not been disappointed with it and it’s way ahead of my previous experience of their tuning boxes. I would go as far as saying it equal to the custom remap I had. I’m currently running it on map 2 +1, plenty of power and a very noticeable hike in torque measured by my backside dyno. Mpg has improved too.

Installation is very easy as it just plugs into the existing loom. The additional wiring isn’t noticeable for anyone looking under the bonnet but the flashing leds on the tuning box are dead giveaway. As I’ve said on other threads if you can’t afford to pay for the insurance increase for any mods you do, then you shouldn’t be doing the mods in the first place.

@themanwithnoaim has a DTUK box on his 245, strictly for economy only I believe :speechless:

I put a DTUK box on my diesel after 2 months ownership and it easily compares to Remaps ive had by Revo and if anything smoother. Its easy to remove in less than 5 minutes although as far as im aware to remove the box from a petrol is tricky as you have to go under the car.I bought the pedal box about 3 months after and i found this even more impressive. I think if i had a 245 i would go pedal box to see how that feels first .Its hard to describe to the naysayers what difference it makes and the difference in power delivery.

@Richard_vrs245 I'm in the south of England if thats close enough for you, you're welcome to take mine for a spin

With a 50bhp increase, I was quoted an extra £260 on my premium. Thanks, but no thanks Aviva.

Adrian or Greenlight are pretty good for things like this, my old car went from 250 -> 300+bhp and there was no charge. They usually base it off the power increase and 50bhp isn't much of anything.

Just out of interest but has anyone put the 245 on a Rolling road to see what it’s putting out as standard?

I know vag sometimes quote the bhp a bit on the conservative side

@themanwithnoaim has - I believe it to be pushing approx 300bhp with a box on - not sure pre box

I think it was 260 ish standard and 290 ish with the box but the maps have now been altered, it certainly feels a lot quicker now :)

My DTUK box is coming tomorrow. I did what @themanwithnoaim said and requested the box to have the bigger jumpers and the GTI clubsport map on and they said it comes with that as standard now. I would like over 300 too be honest

Running Tesco Momentum 99 ron fuel standard tune (ie. tuningbox off) my 245 ran 252.9, with the old tuningbox setup it then ran 290.8

I've since had the jumpers revised (i.e. increased the boost) & now run Vpower 99 ron fuel & added a pedalbox plus, its now feels like a borderline complete Fn animal or, how the most powerful ever vRS should have come outta the factory.

@VladSoilerOfCarpets, @Thorpe76, @sigarland1987 & @mk4gtiturbo can all comment  of its performance having given it a run since the last engine mods

Good man, have fun

Beast! Bet that's a weapon! Power and torque curves are practically identical to stock, only greater B)

As Tony says, it is an extremely quick car now, and quite enjoyable to drive with the adaptive dampers etc.

Still think Cupra 300 st is better buy.
