Oil temperature

Featured Replies

Hi,

probably there iz topic for this... but didt find it.

So, my oil temp in my superb 2.0 TDI 150 Hp, when i drive:

- VERY eco is max 90 °C

- "Normal" is around 98 °C

- "Sporty" is around 106 °C

But on highway at 150 km/h oil temp is >118 °C, even goes >125°C.

Is that normal!?

I ask because i had (until couple days ago) Golf VI 2.0 140 HP was NEVER above aprox 105 °C (even on speeds >150 km/h.

Thnx

mine is between 95-105 once warmed up, never seen it higher than that. 125 sounds very high to me.

how you drive? normal, or you push it? highway or city?

Sounds very normal, but then that is assuming the Ambient temps are not low.

Is it a new vehicle still running / driving in or a one with some kilometers on the cliock?

Same for me. 220PS model.

I saw temps around and above 115C on long motorway journey across Germany/France last year when I had the 150TDI. Driving at 130-150 kph for up to 4 hours a time. Back in the UK on normal driving I saw similar temps to those in your post.

Not a lot of point saying what a Petrol TSI oil temp might be in different circumstances when the OP is asking about a TDI's 'Indicated oil temperatures'.

these temps are from day 1.. now i have it for 2y and 55k km.

i have 5w30 oil, and lets say that 90% of km i made on highways.

Just to clarify.

I did say in my post that I was referring to when I had my 150TDI

You did, SwissRob didn't.

If you are worried by these temperatures set the display to fahrenheit and you will really freak out!!!!

Ha! The first time I saw 220°F, I did freak out. Much interweb clicking ensued. All normal somehow.

Most of my driving is motorway at 65 (MPH) and a little round town at the weekend (2.0 150 TDI).  Never seen anything above 105.  Had a Passat previously (1.6 105 TDI) and it was the same, 125 does seem very high.  I never noticed ambient temps making much of a difference but then I wasn't really looking to be fair.
