Hi everybody, I have a 1.5 TSI SE L in black on order, should be built this week.  I've gone for a couple of options; rear camera, front sensors, ambient lighting and the five year warranty as it's a

I've posted these pictures in the owners register thread so apologies for the duplication.  Collected my 1.5TSI SE-L yesterday and I'm very impressed.  It makes my old I30 seem like it was from a diff

I don’t buy this old people buying Quartz Grey business. I won’t stand for it!! There’s nowt wrong with the colour :D

I think it's classy - unlike me :D

Hi all

My Octy 1.5 SEL is being built in a couple of weeks time :)  First new car, and a bit nervewracking telling my dad (even though I'm pushing 40!) as he's never bought a new car - though even he can't get a decent 3 year old family car for 5K any more! But the buy price on 1-2 year cars seem ridiculously high compared to decent deals, finance contribution etc, some on autotrader are lower spec second hand and more expensive. But I do have to wait.

I've gone for a towbar (for cycle rack) and heated windscreen (with obligatory front seats) - I did start speccing up a SE, but once the essentials are included (no car mats?!) then the nicety of the alacantra seats, well... I'm in for the long haul, so gotta be comfy.

The one place I have scrimped is the paint. I'm hoping it won't be too bad, the energy blue, but I'm planning to be in the car driving it more than being sat in the front garden looking at it. Interesting that of 7 pages on this thread, no one else has gone for it that I saw...

Deal was via carfile.net, recommended by someone on this site who was also on another forum elsewhere. Base price was 700 cheaper than a more local deal via carwow. Just a 200 mile drive to collect.

Looking forward to not having to drive round the block a few times to allow a dpf to regen, or a lumpy engine, or not cutting out at junctions.. if anyone wants a cheap astra estate let me know ;) I'm hoping I don't have enough experience with other cars to realise any 'badness' with the rear suspension, as it seems that is pretty much the single thing that most of you lot would change about the octy! I'm a pretty frugal driver anyway, so won't be thrashing it around corners.

Thanks for having me :)

I went into the dealers yesterday to collect some paperwork and saw two estates in Quartz Grey and same spec as I've ordered, 'Old Man Grey' or not they looked gorgeous. The end of August seems a long way off!!

My 1.5 TSI SEL has just passed 10,000 miles so I thought I would post an update on the (mostly) good aspects of owning the car for the past 6 months.

I still really like the styling of the facelift – yes, even the front lights!  It is quite a striking car to look at IMO and the Quartz Grey takes on different hues depending on the intensity and direction of light hitting the bodywork.  For example, looking down on the top of the car from above, the colour is more a deep metallic blue than grey.

I find it a very enjoyable car to drive, due to the combination of smooth(ish) and flexible petrol engine and agile handling.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy – whilst I knew that it would be nowhere hear the 60+ MPG I achieved in my previous Superb diesel, I can quite easily get around 50 MPG and on some longer runs, driving gently, I am getting 55+ MPG (these are based on the onboard computer which I have calculated to be about 7% optimistic).

The day I collected the car I noticed an occasional rattle, noticeable at low speeds and when going over uneven roads.  I tried to locate the source of the rattle and eventually found that when the sunroof was open on slide, the noise could not be reproduced yet when on tilt it was easy to reproduce.  The car was in at a Skoda authorised repairers on Friday and although I gave then a detailed description of how to reproduce this noise they could not reproduce the noise until I went out with the technician and could demonstrate the noise within a mile of driving.  The car when back into the workshop where, lo and behold, they found two loose mounting bolts for the rear part of the sunroof mounting.  I have taken the car for a run today and yes!  Result!  Rattle gone!

As others have reported my car also suffered from the over revving issue but the ECU update was applied on Friday and my test run today confirms this has been sorted.  The engine seems generally a bit smoother as before it would occasionally “stutter” when reapplying the throttle after coasting.

I also asked the garage to look at a rattle in the driver’s door area that started about 2 weeks ago and which seems to abate when the window is opened slightly.  They have lubricated what they can and added some additional padding / sound proofing within the door which although has improved the issue it is still present.

Interestingly, the garage I used has only recently become a Skoda authorised repairer (they are now also sell second hand Skodas) and they are also a Vauxhall dealer.  When I initially enquired about the time/mileage limit to look at rattles, squeaks and creaks they clearly didn’t know that these were not covered for the full 3 years but only 3 months.  As my car is now 6 months old and covered 10,000 miles, I have been told that they can’t look at any further rattles should they occur.

So, over all I’m really pleased with my car – sorting the driver’s door rattle would be the icing on the cake but I guess I can always lower the window or turn the radio up!

I had no idea about the 3 month thing. I had a creak in the rear suspension when new but has now died down fortunately, esp as I’ll reach the 3 month deadline on Friday!
