Carwow wow! Underwhelming!

Featured Replies

I was contemplating ordering a new Octavia 1.5 or 1.0 estate and was told Carwow was the way to get the best deal. So finally got round to trying, the website is clunky and its keeps dropping some of my options along the way including in one case, metallic. ?? Never mind. Got 2 quotes (nearest dealers) back within a couple of hours. 10% off!! Wow!! How underwhelming!!

Interestingly, Passat estates are coming as cheap or better with over 20% off. And the standard kit on those looks quite a lot better than an Octavia.

Whats the best % that anyone got off the rrp? Cash deal only as I intended to use the scrappage deal.

Rethinking is it worth it.

Try a site called “drive the deal” - I found better pricing on there. Then take it into a dealer and ask them to better it.

If you’re not bothered about owning the car, then leasing will generally get you a better monthly rate than the traditional HP / PCP deals you get via a dealer.

You are always going to get a bigger discount on VW/BMW/Mercedes than on Skoda in my experience. CarWow can yield good results but it tends to be a bit regional as not all dealers will go after nationwide business.  I bought my VRS 245 through CarWow from a dealer in the Portsmouth area but they did not provide the quote on a profile with an Oxfordshire postcode.   (Just to clarify I discovered I unintentionally had two profiles, one at my old address on the south coast)

You're probably not going to get the best deal from local dealers, and so it depends if your happy for your car to be delivered (or travel to collect)

DrivetheDeal does provide good prices but you don't know who your dealer is until you agree to buy, for that reason I prefer CarWow where you are dealing with named dealers from the offer on.

I've bought a new car through both services.

I have purchased two cars via Drivethedeal and have encountered no issues whatsoever. The Dealer will contact you to agree details before taking any money. If you are uncomfortable you can pull out without any risk.

www.broadspeed.com is a lot quicker, gives you an instant idea of the discounts available, then you can contact a dealer to see if they will match it.

I got around £4k off using CarWow, but a £3k of that was the readily available deposit contribution. The best cash offer was 12.7% off

Carfile - they're smaller broker but you get personal service and good discount, plus they put you in touch with the dealer early on.

Try coast2coastcars.co.uk. They are offering 19% off a 1.5TSI SEL Manual with metallic paint.

Thanks for the advice guys. Has anyone actually bought using coast2coast or broadspeed.

When I googled coast2coastcars it came back with "permanently closed" and 1 one star rating. The website is active but the "about" section is very sparse on information, no address etc.

Broadspeed not very clear with whether their quoted price (very good) is just a guestimate or actually achievable, plus there are fees involved.

My father bought a C class Merc from Broadspeed a couple of years ago. Everything was handled very efficiently so I would recommend them.

My Father-in-law used Coast2Coast about 18 months ago for a new Superb,  not much by way of updates during the order/build period but it came on time and was delivered to his front door on a transporter.

Also try buyanewcaronline.co.uk, if you are paying cash. I found them excellent value late last year, and you don’t have to get involved with dealers. Happy to give more details if required, thoroughly recommended

Ok so just tried Coast2coastcars and the price they come back with includes skoda deposit contribution. As I am cash and after the scrappage,I need to add back £3000 making their offer a paltry 4.7%.

The apparently attractive offer from Broadspeed (21%) probably also includes the deposit contribution judging by the difficult to understand small print. I've sent them a txt asking to clarify.

Dtd also quote inclusive of deposit contribution, so I need to phone them to get a cash quote.

In the lead seem to be Carfile.net with 14% for cash.

Do you only get the 3k deposit contribution if you take it on finance?

If so ..... take the finance and then pay the balance off within the first 14days Im sure that you are able to do this?!

The scrappage allowance of £3500 cannot be used in conjunction with other offers such as the deposit contribution.

Yeh, i found Carfile are decent people to deal with and you should get 14/15% off for cash deal. The dealer will just give you standard p/x price if you have one.

There are other sites showing more off, but strongly suggest you speak to someone who's actually used them before committing.

Other thing to do is search Autotrader/Skoda used for a demo/or pre-registered car. I was about to change my 14 plate vRS with Carfile again, but at the last minute found a good deal for a pre-regd car with extras, and obviously no waiting list.

Fair few VRS around, but not sure about the 1.0/1.5 you're looking for. Good luck !

just purchased Karoq from carwow, i found it was best system and cheapest (i was looking for cash price).

However i find Skoda dealers are tight! I doubt without website like carwow i could of got even £100 off.

This is opposite of where you can play off the big 3 against each other: BMW/Mercedes/Audi

Broadspeed confirmed their 21% price offer can't be combined with scrappage. ....hmmm....Also chased the apparently stonking deals on Carwow offered on VW Passat estate (6k+) only to be told no scrappage (worth 5k) with these prices.

All in all its looking like in many cases these scrappage deals are a big con.

They shouldn't affect your deal / discounts at all in reality - the scrappage scheme is government funded, so don't let the dealers etc play the "you're already getting £5k off and we can't give you any more" card.

This round of scrappage schemes is NOT government funded, AFAIK,  The 2009 scheme was, but this current set are all funded by carmakers.

Are you sure? If it is, then my point is completely wrong ha!

From: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-4833864/Car-scrappage-schemes-explained-compared.html

"While the government continues to drag its heels with a consultation on its prospective diesel scrappage scheme, 24 car manufacturers have taken the decision into their own hands by offering discounts on new models when drivers trade-in older vehicles."
