Sasha’s Octavia vRS

@SashaGrace

I know this is an old thread but do you have any step by step instructions on how to complete this fitout?

I want to go from manual seats to electric seats. Don't need the heating function.

Thanks

Another mod completed, sort of 😂 Electric 230 interior is officially installed. Got some things to sort like the rear backrest tabs are showing up but the seats are locked and I’ve decided to keep the red stitching and match the wheel, gear knob and handbrake stitching later. Otherwise I am just going to hit the rear seats with a hairdryer to get the last few storage marks out but otherwise I’m super happy. I’d show you the comfort access but that’s not going to work until Tuesday as the FL BCM has stropped one time too many and is now dead so I’ve put the old one back in, will have the CP done then and after that the comfort access will work but everything else works including the seat memory and the mirror memory as I have memory mirrors too. Very very happy 😃

My power folding mirrors arrived today and as it goes I was busy this morning but free this afternoon so I made the most of it and got cracking fitting them. Now I should mention in case you don’t know, I live in Wales and it rains about 377 days a year so some of these pictures show some rain falling, but it cleared up later in the day.

The first job in my case is to change the mirror covers over because, as you can clearly see, these ones are red and mine are black. You need to angle the mirror glass over toward the mount (toward the car if you are doing this with mirrors mounted on a car) and insert a flat blade screwdriver about a third of the way down to pry off the release tab. I didn’t think to take a picture of me removing the red ones and there would be no point in me showing you the black ones as you won’t be able to see, so I’ve stolen this image of a white cap so you can see what you need to remove.

The mirrors will then look something like this. You’ll need to do the same on the original mirrors and then reattach the covers you want to keep on the folding mirrors.

Next remove this piece of trim. There is a gap in the trim to insert a pry tool where my finger is in this image.

Once that’s done, you must unplug the wiring for the mirror switch.

Remove the switch from the bottom and then unplug the connector. Once you’ve done that, get a long T27 tool and undo one of the bolts that holds the door card on.

At the bottom of the door card there is this little socket thing. You need a 10mm spanner to twist the nut and line it up with the cutout in the door card.

After you’ve done that, the window switches need to come out. A plastic pry tool is needed to pry up the switch panel being careful not to slip and mark anything. Here are where the tabs are to pry.

Next the other bolt needs to come out with the T27 tool, being careful not to drop it.

Remove the light from the bottom of the door and unplug it.

Once that’s done, pull the door card away from the car starting from the bottom being careful not to break too many of the tabs. I broke one on each door so I’ll order some in to replace them. When the door card is loose down the sides and at the bottom, you will need to lift it up and away from the window ledge. The tweeter grill is also lifted up and away from the door.

Next unplug the mirror plug from the door controller and route the wiring out.

Next you’ll need an M10 spline tool to remove the bolt holding the mirror on and once undone the mirror should pull away.

Refitting is the reverse of the removal, nothing extra to add, just replace like for like.

On the passenger side the process is the same, however there is no mirror switch and there are no window switches, just a blank panel.

Once you’ve refitted everything, you’ll need to code the mirrors in as follows

To enable lock/unlock power folding mirrors with key fob:
[09] Central Electronics
[16] Security Access - Code is 31347, click "Do it!"
[10] Adaptation, choose from the drop down channel

[24] - Access control 2 - Funk Spiegelanklappung Modus change to “by look command via remote control key”

[26] - Access control 2 - Menuesteuerung Funkspiegelanklappen change to “active”

[34] - Access control 2 - Profilfunktion fur Anklappung der Aussenspiegel

[35] - Access control 2 - Signalisierung Spiegelanklappung

Then in the car….
In the Media display
Click "Car"
"Setup"
"Mirrors & Wipers", select the option for “Fold away after parking.

To enable field lights on side mirrors:

[42] Door Electronics Driver Side
- Long Coding
-front_field_light --> active
-turn_off_front_field_light_with_folded_mirror --> active

[52] Door Electronics Passenger Side
- Long Coding
-front_field_light --> active
-turn_off_front_field_light_with_folded_mirror --> active

And that should be that, time to test and watch them fold in by themselves. Unless of course you are me. Then you will have mirrors that don’t fold in on the button and you sit there checking and rechecking for 20 mins wondering why they aren’t working, then browse through various German Golf forums, at this point raging about the fact they don’t work before you finally re check the part numbers of the door controllers and notice they end in 392 and 393. These are midline door controllers and don’t support folding mirrors, they need to be ones that end in 592 and 593 which you could have sworn they said before you bought the mirrors, but obviously you need stronger glasses. Great. Put in a quick phone call to the breakers yard you bought the mirrors from and negotiate the door controllers down to £30 and wait until the weekend to take it all apart again and change the door controllers. What’s that about Specsavers Black Friday deals?? What a total idiot :giggle:

I know this is an old thread. I would love to do this on my vrs at some point, having power folding mirrors would be a luxury that is handy for parking in certain places.

Currently the settings(excuse the dust, haven't had time to clean it) on my car under mirrors and wipers does not have the setting. I am assuming that once you have installed everything and coded the correct settings like explained the options for Fold away after parking will appear?

Also is there a part numbers for the 592 and 593 modules, do I need both? If my car has 392 and 393, do you have both or either or I am confused on that part?

Is it possible for someone to let me know part numbers for the switch and mirrors also?

@SashaGrace

Having read this awesome post, I think I may have missed something that I hope you could help me out with please

Did you use VCDS or OBDeleven to code the powerfold mirrors?

Also the only available modules I can find all end with either the letter E or B, is that significant.

Thank you in advance for your reply 😊
