  • Ironically, the last time a backmarker took the leader out in F1, that backmarker was none other than Jos Verstappen

the way he's been driving in the first few races, it wouldn't be a surprise if Max ended up in the front row of the grandstand / marina

  • As usual the super-mature Max and Seb both laid the blame for their collisions on the other party. The stewards disagreed with those opinions.   W4nkers both.

Finally, in the second turbo era,  where a good number of the cars are fairly equal and we can actually see driver's talent. Now up to Lewis and Seb if they can show they have more talent rather than just a much faster car

Maximising results whilst in the best car is what all champions do. When given the best car those 2 smashed Webber and Rosberg. But real greats can succeed without the best car.  Prost won the 86 title in a car clearly not the best, and Moss came close in 61 in a customer Lotus that was outclassed by half the grid.

Don't think so, not judging by the slower times than yesterday in a disrupted session where not everyone got the opportunity for a clean lap. Hopefully will see in Qually soon, hope its close but with a Red Bull victory, again, and lots of other Renault powered cars in the points !

I wonder what the purpose is of the extra paddle present on Vettel's car and not on Raikkonen's?

As I was saying earlier:

Who would have thought it, Hamilton leads the championship by 4 points.

Red Bull...oh dear.

um when I watched that moment, twice, I could of sworn someone came back. Put it this way in a split second they went right, then left. The dude fluffed it, but there was two parts to it imho.

Interesting race, absolutely laughed my ass off when GRO broadcast his excuse... classic!

I thought GRO was unlucky when the wall jumped out in front of him.

Poor old Seb " How is Bottas in front of me? " Same as when you stole the race from Hamilton under the safety car after eating his dust for the entire race. What goes around comes around. Hamilton stole the race this time. As for Red Bull...Verstappen moved twice and the King of Overtaking invariably carries out long distance outbraking dives so it was no surprise to see them come together.  done Leclerc and unlucky Bottas.

Most of the Renault runners seemed to throw their cars at the scenery or at each other.

Checo keeps podium.  Correct decision IMO.

I think Max should get both a race ban for between 1 to 3 races and be fined for the equivalent for the damage on both cars by Red Bull.  Red Bull failing to give team orders cost them dear and they are increasingly looking like a team with a poor future.  I would like to see Andrian Newey off to Renault proper, which has much British content already.

Renault engined cars, the 6 of them, have a point total of 126 points compared to 130 for Merecedes engined cars and 137 for Ferrari powered so all fairly equal.  The Hulk and Carlos looked very quick even against the RB early on and the Hulk made a rare error.

Lewis looked so surprised to have won when he was expect third at best and good on him for making an early move to comfort VB after the unlucky puncture and perhaps then SV for trading 2nd for 4th.

There was other racing on over the weekend, ie Formula-e and even WCCC and even football to enjoy during the long safety car and dull bits of the F1 race.  Grojean was priceless though I remember Jenson Button do something similar.

On the subject of "maximising opportunity" and "winning in not the best car" Keke Rosburg took the 1982 Drivers' Title with 1 race win. That year 11 different drivers won races, and no-one won more than twice.

One of my favourite drivers of all time.   1985 Keke's lap of Silverstone in qually with about 1500 hp or so and an average lap speed of well over 160 mph was something to behold.

Been trying to find a video of it with no joy.  I recall it was as if he was on slippy we ice he had so much power only doing 200 mph for bits of it, all powered by a Honda turbo !

Mad Max wasn't giving his team mate a friendly brake test, was he ?

about 20 manufactures points and championship points lost by red bull this week end,but i do enjoy seeing mad max banging into the other drivers and having accidents, looks like he has changed the course of last year and this years championship but its never his fault of course.

...Don't forget he had a slow puncture as well as all the bhp on that 160mph lap!

and it was starting to drizzle!!!

It looks to me like the growing catalogue of mistakes this year is increasing the pressure on Max, and he's started again making the same stupid moves in braking zones that he did as a rookie. Weaving at the braking point will send someone into orbit eventually. Another live TV fatal crash just like the Jeff Krosnoff tragedy can't be allowed to happen.

I agree that it needs clamping down. The FIA should give a short ban to any driver judged to be dangerous like this; they should be banned before they hurt or kill a competitor or worse a spectator or marshal.

It really was a back to the olden days title win by terror that one.

The best driver was killed (as was a promising rookie), and his far lesser team mate, who was easily on course to be champion, was maimed terribly and unable to complete the season.

It was more like the horror of 1950's or 1960's before the Jackie Stewart safety campaign took place.

Im just going to leave this here

Epic

A question for all the F1  experts on here ,IF YOU were a team owner could You afford to have MAX in YOUR team.........................for me a big NO as he has lost/cost red bull too many points

Hakkinen was blindingly fast, a bit crash prone at Mclaren, even got banned from F1, and had a near fatal crash.

But he matured and became a double champ.

Hunt the Shunt - champion later on.

Extravagant talent needs time to grow and succeed.

Looked like the Mercedes were totally dominant in FP1.  Red Bulls looked right up there in FP2, KR looked like he had an engine in issue near the end.  Rest of field well behind top 6.........
