Horner now says the cause of the crash was Vertappen's right foot!

Other news, Renault have allowed all 3 teams to turn up the wick this weekend .

@CHorner No feces Sherlock!! If you don't press the throttle the car doesn't accelerate, and F1 drivers are paid to press it as hard as possible as soon as possible on the exit of a corner!

  • Ironically, the last time a backmarker took the leader out in F1, that backmarker was none other than Jos Verstappen

the way he's been driving in the first few races, it wouldn't be a surprise if Max ended up in the front row of the grandstand / marina

  • As usual the super-mature Max and Seb both laid the blame for their collisions on the other party. The stewards disagreed with those opinions.   W4nkers both.

What to believe?

A lot is said. At first they had the same explanation, software fault. Now they say the opposite.

Why? Not to have another clash with Renault?

Questions, questions. Who to believe?

Max pushed too hard, crashed then told lies. Just like he always does. He's just like Marquez in fact.

The data was always going to find him out...

But most of them don't push it so hard they wreck in Q1.

Ricciardo's engine has responded to turning up the wick.

Amazing repair job to get him out in time to do 1 lap in Q1.

Ferrari and Mercedes been drinking from the fountain of stupidity before their race strategy meeting?

At least it bodes well for the rest of the season.

Riki Bobby Masterclass in overtaking.

What a whinger Seb is to others on the track, its called racing, accept the stewards decision as it applies even to Ferrari.

Well done the Hulk, nice to finish 7th, again, Well done Alonso too !

Verstappen is Marc Marquez!

Verstappen living up to his d1ckhead status, could have won, could have been second. Mercedes again show they cannot react fast enough to changes in the race. Still all of this makes for a better season.

Good parallel.

Real talent (but better than Dani?) but still making too dangerous decisions.

Red Bull Renault (Aston Martin Tag bla) was just a good second a lap quicker in the last twenty laps or so.

Good circuit for F1, roll on Baku.

Hardly surprising as they were on fresh rubber, compared to the cars they were racing.

More too it than just rubber at the end.  The Merc now longer hass the power advantage over Ferrari or the Renault engines.

Looks like Lewis and Bottas still had the down force set for cooler weather when everyone else wound it down when the track temp went up so much for the race.

On that basis Red Bull should have been on pole.

In Q3 on the same tyre trying to set as faster time as possible The Red Bulls were 0.7 and 0.85 seconds slower than Vettel on pole. Engine power is not the be all and end all otherwise all of the Mercedes powered cars would have similar lap times, as would the Renault powered cars.

The track conditions changed hugely from Saturday to Sunday, Red Bulls and others took half a degree off their wings whilst the Mercs still looked set up for cool-ish weather running and hence the lack of pace and then trying to such soft tyres for such a long second stint was just mind boggingly inept.

Even Lewis noticed and said over the radio after the Safety Car "looks like lots of other cars and on new tyres?".

Think Hulk in the Renault actually got sixth and Alonso in the McLaren-Renault 7th  and not the other way round as published by some. Transponder issues.

It might be a long season for Ricciardo.

Quote

The Australian is now on his second internal combustion engine, turbo and both hybrid recovery units and he is only allowed three for the season. In addition to already being on his second of two permitted energy stores after the failure that caused his retirement from the race in Bahrain.

Quote

Team boss Christian Horner said after the failure that "disappointment is probably an understatement". And the continued Renault reliability problems in year five of the hybrid programme

Quote

asked about dwindling faith in Renault's ability to sort it out, Ricciardo admitted that the "window of optimism reduces" - could make a switch to Honda more appealing.

I think Ricciardo's "window of optimism" quote is more about him leaving to get a Mercedes or Ferrari drive than him holding on for a RB-Honda.

Paddock rumour this weekend has him at Ferrari for 2019.

Mercedes setup was for warm weather. This was seen when they were fast on Friday; They stated yesterday they didn't change it much for the cold qually because they wanted to leave the warm weather settings on for Sunday.

Awesome aggressive strategy from RBR. The tyre performance differential was amazing. Did any of the top 6 overtake each other at all on the same tyre?

Funny to hear Vettel moaning about the safety car timing - when that was the only thing that got him above 3rd place in Melbourne.

A lot of "Mercedes were poor" sentiment here, but they weren't the team who had blown a 1-2 already long before the safety car arrived.

Ferrari cocked up their pitstop plan and left both their cars behind the Mercs they had been beating comfortably up till that point.

Also "Mercedes have no power advantage"

Did any car on the same tyres pass a Mercedes today?

It's not cut and dried at all, I dont think Merc are a lot worse off, but for me Ferrari threw it away today with their tactics at the stops.

At least CrasherMax (shame the races aren't on Friday...at 5 o'clock...) apologised to his victim this time.

I expect the german-logo'd skid lid had already been hurled around the Ferrari motorhome by that point though.

Vettel's temper is possibly his weakest point.

At the time the safety car came out Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull were all running the medium tyre after one stop. If there had not been a safety car would have Red Bull pitted again?

1. Without the safety car, it was a race winning strategy.

2. All 4 Ferrari/Merc were on Mediums - the hardest tyre available.

Vettel ruined his tyres after the incident with Max as he did the spin turn to get going again. He much have used up nearly all his remaining rubber in the one manoeuvre.

Heads roll at McRenault only 3 races into season. Tim Goss, head of chassis, removed from role.

It's Friday it's 12 o'clock it's CrasherMax

yet again

Which prompted me to do a web search for hasmaxverstappencrashedyet - There is a registered .com of that name.
