Wheel protector fluid / spray / wax

Featured Replies

Hello all, long time no post, I trust you are all well and a Happy New Year to you and yours.

Ive been running a set of aftermarket alloys for the past 3 years and they are looking a little tired. When the weather improves a little I will refit the stock alloys which have only done about 8k and are immaculate.

With their condition in mind, really want to keep them that way and have been looking into ways to guard against the nasties of daily use.

There appears to be a vast array of products out there, some carrying some pretty bold claims and so it got me wondering...

1. After an application, what is the expected period before reapplication? Does wheel cleaner strip it off again?

2. Spray or Wax, advantages of either?

3. Im not the kind of car cleaner that whips the wheels off to do the backs to often, is this something that i should start doing?

4. Product recommendations. I'm not aiming at super high end here, i want a decent product with a decent life expectancy at a fair price.

5. In addition to the above, any wheel specific cleaning regime you guys stand by?

Thats it, i appreciate most of this would have been covered elsewhere but i thought i would post again in case new products have come to market etc..

As always, your help is gratefully received and appreciated.

Happy New Year!

I use Autofinesse mint rims, i only wax my wheels 2-3 times a year. I then use this method to wash my wheels:

i take mine off about twice a year and properly clean and wax.

bilthamber auto wheels - regular clean - with normal car wash

full clean and protect 2-3 times a year depending on climate:

Bilt hamber - korrosol 2-3 times a year

bilt hamber Clay bar - 1-2 times a year

then once alloys look good  as new

poor boys wheel sealant 3-5 thin coats - I apply this with wheel cone sponges using my drill

keeps my rims looking immaculate

I use the exact same products as greenineboss has mentioned above, AF Revolution wheel soap, AF Mint Rims (wheel wax) & the Meguiar's tyre gel, if my wheels have more dirt/grime, salts brake dust etc on them (especially during the winter time) then I use a spray wheel cleaner to help shift the worst muck first, then I use AF Revolution wheel soap method above, with in-between the year just using a QD or spray wax sealant until the weather picks up again in-order for me to take the wheels off again to use the AF Mint Rims but also use an iron fall out when I've got the wheels off.

Get some little detail brushes for the locking wheel nuts & a nice medium to large wheel brush that is flexible also a cheap & decent wash mitt for the alloys, I use these:

but you can get them for £0.99p from china but take a little while to arrive.

Nice one gents, really appreciate your help and guidance.

I feel I can now fit the wheels and with a bit of regular care keep them looking good.

Thank you.
