Internet Connection

Featured Replies

I will be getting my Karoq Edition end of March and have started to read the manual, but the Columbus infotainment section is confusing for the section of connecting to the internet.

My phone contract is unlimited calls and txt but only 6gig of data to the internet, so as not to use my data on the phone could I purchase a data only SIM card put it in the internal SIM slot and then use Bluetooth on my phone for calls only, or can you only use the one method of connection at a time.

You can use a SIM and use it as you're suggesting, in the set up options you have the choice to use the SIM for data & calls or data only.

I have a data only sim card in the internal sim slot, and also two bluetooth phones connected simultaneously.  Both phones are connected for incoming calls, and you can easily switch which one makes outgoing calls.

Thats great thanks for that.

Just one more thing does the SIM have to be for a dongle specifically or can you use one that’s for a tablet, only I went into o2 shop today and they had both one for each.

I think any sim works, I just bought a 12 month EE data only sim. As Macdemon says a pop up appears asking you to choose whether to use the sim for data only or data and calls.

It worked first time, then decided not to work next time so I deleted then readded my phones and it has been fine since. Seems the trick is to set it up with the sim first, then add the phones.

One thing. The data side doesn't necessarily use too much, assuming you won't be streaming Netflix or YouTube cat videos on the go.

Audio uses less, and nav less still.

Via Smartlink, we used Android Auto to run Google Maps for a trip to Lake Como in 2016 and another to Lake Annecy last year. Used an average of about 200Mb IIRC.

Your 6 gig will go a long way and your cell calls and SMS msgs aren't affected of course.

You could try a separate SIM on a no contract SIM only deal and see how it pans out.

Good luck. Pleased Karoq now has Smartlink as standard :-)
