Columbus MY18 (touch) lost data connection

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

A couple days ago I noticed that the little globe positioned to the upper left on the screen was red.

Didn't think much about it then as everything works.

But I couldn't stop thinking about and today I found out that it indicates that no data connection is available.

The weird thing is that I have a 4G WiFi router in the car which both the car and my phone connects to. My phone does get internet access through the router.

Enabled "WiFi hotspot" on my phone and connected Columbus to it but still no data access. Switched back to router and the problem persist.

Don't know how to resolve this as it doesn't work to reconnect, it doesn't work to connect via phone, restart of system doesn't help.

Should I do a reset of Columbus (pressing power for 10 seconds)?

Any ideas?

The other week Skoda updated their servers and broke this. Did for me anyway. The car was sending status info to Skoda okay (location, driving stats, door locked status etc) - but that uses another data connection linked to the SOS function and does not use WiFi.

The solution was to:

1. Go to Settings

2. Go to Factory Settings

3. Select Skoda Connect - and reset this. I think this deletes the local files. Note this is not a full factory reset - you can reset individual settings of the infotainment system.

4. You will be asked about deleting the registered user - I said no.

5. Skoda connect will download the files again and now work. Did for me anyway.

Note one suggestion was to delete the registered user and use Skoda Connect app to re-register. This did not work for me and when I followed the steps above I didn't delete the registered user either.

Without this data connection you do not get the TomTom traffic updates, and you can't access the Skoda Connect service - you will get an error message: 'Error: Skoda Connect'

Thank you very much! Solved the issue instantly :)

The way the Skoda Connect menu loads (a bit slow) I am guessing it is accessing some web services. These probably have an associated WSDL or similar and perhaps it caches these. When they changed the back end services they no longer can communicate. Something like that probably happened and resetting just Skoda Connect Services had it redownload settings and files.

It was useful to see under factory reset that you can reset certain elements of the infotainment system and not have to reset all.
