Auto climate control question

If you turn off a/c for few weeks/months the seals will dry out (and eventually the gas will start leak out), should be left on for dehumidifying all year.

Apparently on the Octavia (and presumably other modern cars) when the A/C is turned off, the pump continues to run slowly to keep the seals lubricated.

So, the cabin is so well sealed that the passengers will use up all the oxygen if the HVAC is in recirc mode.

Right.

The recirculated air is still filtered.

Press the physical setup button on the climate control just below the "auto" button.

This will bring up a climate control menu on the Entertainment unit which is not accesssable from the other menus on the touch screen.

Sorry - I've tried this. My CC panel has a 'menu' button which I have pressed which brings up an impressive air distribution schematic display on the infotainment touch screen. There are menus and submenus here but the options and settings are limited to 'Auto' 'Manual (fan speed etc), 'Off' and 'Screen demist'. Alongside the usual temperature settings, there are no other options such as adjusting the sensitivity of the automatic function as was alluded to earlier.

My 2018 Octy is SE spec and likewise, I can not find the auto-climate-control-power-setting in the setup menu, but it doesn't bother me. The manual shows everything for all spec variants and I have been puzzled and disappointed on  some occasions.

Its maybe something that has changed on the newer model years.

On mine (2014) when I press the "setup" button which now seems to be called "menu" in the newer pictures I see, I have the same nice infographic of the climate system.

In the centre there is a large button which says "AC Profile: Comfort".
I can click the button to select "low", "comfort" or "strong".

Something similar to the top-middle image here:
Skoda-Octavia-vRS-2.0-TDI-184PS-2014-rev

Mine is the same as gabbo's and I have the Columbus also 2014 but petrol though just played with it and set to strong. New toy so getting to work out the settings is half the fun. :)

I have a 2015 with Columbus MIB1 and I have the aircon profile option.

Maybe this was a change when the infotainment went to MIB2?

Lee

Mine is a 2016 with Amundsen MIB2.

Pressing Menu gets this screen:

Press the little fan symbol at top right:

That looks like the answer to where it is on the MIB2... !

Mine is as Pistonbroke says- with the Bolero in my 16 plate 1.4tsi. I asked this very question last year and got that answer. I am bemused that there is at least two ways into the climate control.

How do I drive with Auto turned on but with also with recirculate forced on?

Having been driving an EV, I noticed just how dirty all other cars are (especially when following cold cars out of car park and sitting at traffic lights). I now force AC and recirculate to be permanently on so I don't get any exhaust into the cabin. The Nissan EV can have recirculate settings forced on and still retain auto fan speed and auto positional setting. Does Skoda VAG system do the same?

When checking the menu today, I notice I have automatic recirculation selected in a tick box.

No idea if that should switch to recirculate automatically when foul air is detected or ,if in recirculate mode, then fresh air should be admitted when needed.

Neither actually  seems to be the case.

I always have to switch manually to recirculate if air pollution, i.e. near Port Talbot, or smoky 4x4 s are around. When I've inadvertently left it in recirculate, the windows misted up in damp conditions.

Can anyone confirm a genuine 'automatic' response from their climate control?

I have just searched the pdf manual and on pages 115 and 116 , I think it says that both responses can/should happen. But I have not experienced  them.

I know the section of manual you are referring to. There's no indication when the car is in automatic-recirculate, there's no wording to say what criteria the car deem necessary to recirculate. In my experience I have smelt foul exhaust air when left to full auto, so I wouldn't trust this.

Personally I'd rather have full time recirculate mode, with sensor checked clean air allowed to be filtered in occasionally rather than other way round.

I wonder if auto recirculate is used when the incoming air temperature is vastly different to the desired temperature, and where the internal temp hasn't yet reached the desired. Might mean the car gets to the correct temperature that bit quicker.

Anyone else have the Air Care option and wish it did not have to be turned on every time?

Unless I'm mistaken, auto recirculate happens when in reverse, apparently to avoid exhaust fumes being drawn in. Think it also works when spraying windscreen wash, to avoid the smell...

If it does then it doesn't work properly on my O3, whenever I use the windscreen washers you smell the washer additive (especially in winter when I have the concentration higher).

Nope, doesn't work that way in mine

Is the climate control the same in your car as the vRS?

By the way, I don't think the recirculate button lights up when it happens if that's what you were thinking?

Edit - Mk2 info, I'd be surprised if Mk3 isn't the same:

I agree, it’s the daft to have to activate the AirCare every time - makes it totally pointless

You press the "Setup" button on the AC controls to open the special climate menu. Here you can choose, Low, Comfort & High for the climate setting.

you can also change the way it tries to deal with temperature.. it's in the menus somewhere, I can't remember the precise name.

You can try setting the AC power higher - press the setup button on the fan dial, then choose the 'high' option from the choices.

I think this is what you're looking for - the Setup button lets you sett the "agressiveness" of the blowers in three levels, while still on auto. Also, setting the temp to "HI" or "LO" will maximize the fan speed.

Remembered this the other day, a/c was on auto, temp at 19 and fan was blowing audibly. Sprayed windscreen, fan died out immediately and then came back after a minute or so. Tried it a couple of times, definitely happens.

Some smell may still find it's way in, I doubt the vents completely close.

The recirc button light does NOT light up when this is occurring though.

Glad I wasn't imagining it :)

One question; Why is it important that the AC is on at winter?

Yes I am aware of the air drying effect from AC, BUT the AC compressor has an electric clutch that just engage the compressor when needed to save fuel.

In Norway with really cold winters we never need any cooling, we need heat. So I dont understand why the AC compressor should kick in at any time?

And if it doesnt, it has no effect?

To dry the air you need the AC compressor to be working. It will kick in if the humidity gets too high.
