Spacers are rarely a good idea. If you think there's an alignment problem buy wheels that are the right size. Any fitment of spacers will also mean needing to get new longer wheel bolts so that you maintain the integrity of the bolted joint between wheel and hub.

Why do you even think you need them anyway? The image you posted from willtheyfit shows that the new wheel sits inside the footprint of the existing wheel and tyre, though yes you've moved the centre of the contact patch inwards.

The most that I would want to push the offset on a Superb MK2 is ET38. ET35 is starting to get a long way from what the front steering is set up for at the factory.

 

It's always better to get wheels with the correct offset so that you don't have to use wheel spacers. Wheel spacers have many problems. Additional unsprung weight, corrosion problems due to dissimilar metals, extra source of potential failure, etc.

You misunderstand what offset actually does. The reason for having an offset is so that the centre of the tyre's contact patch is in a particular location relative to the steering and suspension pickup points on the car. The reason ET will be different on different width/diameter wheels on a given car is to maintain the position of the tyre's contact patch when the change in pan width and/or diameter would otherwise put the contact patch somewhere the designer doesn't want it to be. Equally, someone who knows what they're doing with suspension might choose to change the offset to get a certain change in steering/handling.

 

You can't make a blanket statement that a particular offset can't be used on a given car since there are two many variables involved. ET35 might actually work on certain wheels/tyres.

Thanks for replying. I haven't got them fitted yet. I think there will be a weird look of the car, that's why I was thinking getting spacers. There is some bushes that needs replacing now and after I fit the new wheels obviously I will do the wheels alignment. They don't touch the calipers or anything but I just don't want that weird look of the car, that's why I would fit the spacers but if it's not a good idea and the car could run the same without them I can get used with the look, it's a taxi anyway. 

My winter wheels are Road America with a ET 37. When we had the Superb new I bought a set of 16" wheels with an ET 50. They looked really bad and misplaced on the car and I quickly started to look for something with a smaller ET to sit flusher with the bodywork. So if you fit spacers the 16" ET 50 are close to my winter wheels. Your steering and alignment won't be affected. You will longer bolts though.

Hi I have a 2013 Superb 1.8 Tsi

 

Still have the original 18" wheels and 225/40/R18 tyres which give a very hard ride as many have said.

 

I'm looking to buy some snow tyres to drive to the alps so I popped into my local main dealer to check but they weren't that helpful other than confirming the offset of 7.50 x 18 ET46.

 

I don't know that much about these numbers but I've been offered a set of wheels and tyres from a 2016 Skoda Yeti, described as 5 stud wheels, PCD 5x112, Tyres fitted 205/55 R16

 

The seller says they will fit my Superb.  Can anyone confirm this or offer any helpful advice.  TYVM

What are the actual tyres you are being offered? 

Speed / load rating as well. 

(Do you need to be carrying Snow Chains where you are going?)

Both the Yeti and the Superb MK2 use the same specification 16" rims, ie. 6Jx16 ET50 and 7Jx16 ET45.

 

However, the tyre size could be different as the Yeti used either 205/55R16 or 215/60R16...whereas the Superb MK2 only used the smaller 205/55R16.

 

As the tyres have a H speed rating it's important not to exceed the 130mph/210km/h limit for these tyres...if the car has a top speed greater than this.

 

The November 2014 edition of the Superb MK2 owner's manual says that snow chains can be used with the 205/55R16 tyre size when fitted to either the 6Jx16 ET50 or 7Jx16 ET45 rim...but only on the front wheels, and only with 9mm chains.

Just seen this message come through.  Thank you so much.  That's brilliant. 

 

As the ones being sold are 205/55 R16 then they'll match my Superb perfectly.  I'm going to go ahead and get them now.
