Ours is still in transit. Utterly ridiculous.

Our good will gesture from Skoda is £100..... they’re calling me on Wednesday with an update.

Not enjoyed this whole Skoda experience thus far.

When I asked about a goodwill gesture I was told it would be discussed when I take delivery of the car, to which is still at the UK port waiting a transporter to the dealer.

Hi all, I live in Romania and I ordered a Karoq (1.5 tsi dsg) in december and signed a contract for 3-4 months untill delivery. April being the 4th month, I contacted my dealer and was told that May would be the best bet.

The reason given was that petrol production was halted and this caused delays. True enough, when going to skodas page in Romania, you cannot configure a petrol karoq anymore, only diesel.

Anyone heard something similar before?

Not logic as such - but generally cars that are specified with obscure (ie: not often ordered) options/paints/wheels configurations, will take longer than cars that are relatively common builds.

In blunt terms, someone takes a guess at the percentages of each option and spec (based on past history, although that is obviously a weak indicator when data is a previous model with different spec), this could be year or two ahead to determine how much build capacity is needed (do they make 500 a day, or say 1500 per day etc)

The factory then runs a complicated computerised order program which matches the arrival of the parts to production line, using some sort of algorithm it then tries to find the best mix to minimise delays.

However if orders include parts that are in excess of the component production capacity, cars including that get in a queue many weeks in the future.

At an an extreme level, orders for some engines or specs can be suspended, or the factory eventually clears the backlog with spec change, or alternative parts supplier.  In some rare instances some cars come through with minor free upgrades (as an example, I think someone once mentioned they got a dipping rear view mirror instead of standard).

It may not even be an option, if they expected higher proportion of more basic spec cars, might be short of a part that is on a higher spec model.   Some parts are common to multiple VW group models so could be another model affecting parts supply.

If your build week is greater than about 6-8 weeks forward, some parts probably not yet allocated.

As has been noted a few times before one of the issues must surely be that the same engine is being used by multiple VW, Seat, Skoda etc., brands.  The capacity issue then become even more difficult to predict and then match capacity to prediction/orders.  This is not just engines but many of the key chassis/transmission elements.  All this is of course orchestrated to the music of “diesel gate” and the various government reactions to particle emissions.

Just been informed by my dealer that they have run out of 1.5 tsi engines.

Now I know why my build week 14 Karoq still hasn't been built.

I just thought they had run out of seats again.

Dealer is going to phone Skoda on Monday and find out whats going on and how long its going to take.

I was still hoping for End of April early May delivery before my current car needs an MOT.

There is a thread in Seat Arona forum that orders for 1.5 tsi have been suspended, due to lack of engines.  Suggests the problem is wider than just Skoda.

I think I read somewhere that at least one extra production line for 1.5 tsi opens after summer factory break (may have been conversion of 1.4 tsi Line).

So people who have ordered 1.0l TSI might get  earlier :)

Or indeed the diesels. Might make the prospective delivery date.

Gotta feel some pain for those who have ordered the 1.5.

When I picked up mine today I was told that there maybe issues with petrol engine supplies as lots more people have opted for petrol over Diesel engines.  I’m included in that.  I’ve had diesel cars for years and I’ve swapped this time and I guess lots of others mayhave too.

Exactly the same thing happened to me in Serbia (it's just manual transmission and not a DSG), there is a big shortage of 1.5 TSI engines. I ordered in December, and my car was bumped from W10 (March) to W25 (end of June) but luckily last week I got an update from the dealer - they managed to find a W18 slot for it so I should have it in mid-May. Our configurator still allows you to select 1.5 TSI but my dealer told me they got a memo from Skoda that they cannot promise any delivery deadline for customers that choose that engine.

What I think happened was that VW did not want to get stuck with a bunch of non-Euro6c compliant engines so they reduced production and now they can't meet demand.

Well, cheers to that. Maybe I'm in the same boat. I hope.

Looking over the contract I saw they can delay you with 8 more weeks before you can cancel anything. I'd rather not do that since I actually think this is a good car but I won't wait for it if there are more and more delays around the corner.

Raised the issue of shortages of 1.5tsi engine with by dealer & with given this response - Skoda have stopped production for a lot of our petrol engines due to the high demand in orders and they cannot get the parts quick enough. The 1.5 engine has not been effected by this, you can still order the Octavia and the Karoq in the 1.5 engine but as you know lead times are extended at the moment due to the high demand.

Got a call from my dealer today my car has been brought forward to BW18  2 week away so should have it in about 5 week

Mine has arrived in Grimsby yesterday. The dealer wants me to go sign paperwork. So its looking like I may get my car in the next couple of weeks. So far, only a month later than original date given. :dull:

I had an update from the dealer on Friday. Still got an estimated build week 20 (14 May). Just booked a trip up to the Lakes in July, so hopefully be with us in time.

Just been told my car is on the way to port build week 15 2 to 3 weeks away fingers crossed  6 weeks and counting from ordering

Just had a call off the dealer, car as arrived and going to have a look at it and sign the paperwork. We must be the last of the seatgate affair, it seems a age since it was built and all the messaging on here about it. So on Wednesday it’s  time.

I didn't suffer seatgate as far as I know, I thought that affected only Editions (leather seats)? Mine's an SE-L...

Not bad getting your car from the port to the dealer, less than a week?

PS Remember photos of the dog guard and boot liner :-)

I have gone down the route of purchasing my liner off a company called hatchbag.co.uk it hopefully arrives next week, had full liner with bumperguard and door protector. Dog guard is still being fitted by dealer.

Just wondering which guard you went for.

My dealer has two options, one of which is a Travall guard which is made for Skoda (apparently).

The other was the Skoda option which I wanted because it doesn't have metal struts that attach to the boot floor and would make the Hatchbag not fit.

The parts person really tried to put me off the Skoda one which is really odd. So I would also like to see pictures of this one.

I have gone for the fitted one, without any struts I hope....... part number 57A017221A, if that helps.

Just had a look at the paper work printed off by the dealer and can confirm that it is Mounted into holes in the side wall under the ceiling panel and into the boot side panel. Pars included  grille , rivet nuts, spacers, covers, screws with plastic heads, template.

Hope that helps any.

Eeeek! Just contacted Skoda for an update, as it was unconfirmed BW15 (last week) and as of Thursday, it's status hadn't changed. They've just advised that it is "currently in production". Fingers crossed everything progresses smoothly!
