Octavia 1.4 - 122 BHP - 138 BHP - 148 BHP?

Featured Replies

Hello all, I am looking at the Octavia 1.4 petrol engine and have noticed that they at least do a 122 BHP and a 138 BHP and also possibly a 148 BHP?

How can you tell which one by looking?  I would rather not have to trust the dealer/seller on their word.  Is there a marking somewhere, a different engine design or cover?

Can I check by entering the VIN number somewhere?

Many thanks!

Chris

Early Octavia 3   138

Later Octavia 3   148

Think the change was at same time as change to steering wheel  4 spoke wheel = 138

Don't think 122 was fitted to Octavia 3.

I am looking at 2013 onwards and there does seem to be a mix of these.

Is there a vin code checker to find out?

Can you tell by cc or co2 emissions?

I think a rule of thumb would be 2013-2015 is 138bhp (140ps) and 2015 onwards would be 148bhp (150ps). The 122 was never offered in the Mk3 so no need to worry about it (I’m talking about the U.K.).

The engine number is usually printed on the v5, initial letters are the engine code. Also in the spare wheel well is a printed sticker with PR codes, I think the engine code is printed there.

If you enter the reg number into my car check.com it tells you the BHP

right then...

Early 1.4lt engines were 122PS & 140PS.....then later changed to 125 & 150PS....only change was software...

The main difference in the two output levels is the 140/150PS has both camshafts are variable (instead of just one) & the crankshaft is forged...

Not quite that simple - mine is an April 2015 build and it's a 140PS.

PS: What DSG box is available in a 14 plate 1.4 138 BHP TSI Elegance?

The dealer didn't know - lol.  6 or 7 speed? Wet or dry clutch?

it's a brave man who buys a used 1.4 tsi engine, especially if it's out of warranty

far to many problems for my liking, timing chains for a start

What are these problems? The early 1.4TFSI has issues. This one doesn’t really, as far as I have read.

Perhaps @310golfr is confusing the 1.4 TSI with the older 1.4 'twincharger', which was never fitted to the Octavia, just the Fabia vRS?

Can't say I've come across any major issues reported on the 1.4 TSI, and I've been on these forums quite a while...

confused are we???

The current (since late 2013 in VW)... EA211 1.0, 1.2, 1.4lt engines are totally different to the older twinchargers which had all the problems...& they have NO chains...& the water pump is moved OFF the timing belt, so if it jambs it can't rip the belt off

My 1.4tsi has an oil immersed rubber belt. No service interval for a change afaik.

I don't think it’s oil immersed. My understanding is that it’s a strengthened belt with no recommended replacement interval. The service schedule is for it to be inspected at 240000 km. The water pump has its own seperate toothed drive belt.
