Octavia MK3 suspension creaking sound

Featured Replies

When turning steering wheel in place and when passing on certain bumps I hear creaking. The creaking is more intensive on rear suspension when turnigng steering wheel in place.

Before I visit mechanic, what can I expect? Strut mount bearings?

I also have this although it's been reduced lately. I put it down to working the suspension more as we live in an area with lots of big speed bumps.

Best check for a spring being broken, not always easy to spot even when you jack up.

I have noticed that it's creaking only when I hold the brake and turn the steering wheel in place. When it is in N position, there is no sound.

At my last service in Feb, they did recall work for creaking suspension, I presume this was for a known fault, I only found out afterwards on the list of jobs done. I had noticed the noise but thought it was normal. The car is now quiet over speed bumps.

@Nickj633 do you know what they did to 'fix' it?

From what I remember they replaced some bushes, will have to dig out the paperwork to double check. It was definitely a recall and my car is 2015 Scout.

I have this and when reported at the last service (pre 3 years old) nothing was found so it would be VERY useful to know what the recall was please.

As Quirik says, it's not always. I even took a mechanic out to show him it happening but still nothing found on inspection.

Ok, have found the invoice. I remembered incorrectly, I did report a noise in the suspension and they did the following:

vehicle tested and noise heard, related to TPI 2042935/3, remove both front lower suspension arms, applied grease to both transverse link bushes, refitted both arms with new bolts.

i am presuming the tpi related to incorrect fitment or grease, anyway it was done free of charge and cured the issue.

Thanks muchly!

Sounds like a possible straight forward fix at home. Will take a look when I change the wheels in the next couple of days and report back.

I have the EXACT same problem. Only when breaking and turning in place. Did you cure it?

Same.

Mines been in and had a once over, they can't see anything out of the ordinary, everything's tight and in good condition yet it creaks like nobody's business when turning to reverse up the path.

Check out the above about re-greasing the bushes.

Mention the TPI number above and see if it prompts the dealer.

Failing that, take it to an independent and ask them to re-grease them - should be a straightforward job for them.

My sound really sounds like its from the rear of the car. Is it the same with the one in the TPI?

I would have thought if it applies to one set of suspension bushes it'd apply to the other, i.e. both front and rear. I'm not 100% on that, however.

Update:
Got it checked by garage. Was told alot of VAG cars squeak a bit in the bushings when locking the rear axle with the breaks and turning the wheel on standstill. Claimed the bushings in the sportier models had another compund and was more squeaky.

He took it in and checked the bushings / droplinks etc and found nothing wrong. Guess ill have to trust it :)

cant find how to edit post. Ofc its supposed to be "brakes" not "breakes" ;)

My 2018 1.5 TSI Estate (Torsion beam rear suspension) had been creaking over speed bumps for a few months. Before lockdown it was serviced and the rear suspension bushes were lubricated with a white grease. This made no difference to the creak which I and  many others thought came from the rear suspension , it was particularly noticeable on the extension (rise) part of the body movements.

I took the car back in yesterday and the technicians lubricated the front suspension anti roll bar bushes and lower suspension arm bushes with a similar white grease. I don't believe any bolts were replaced and no reference was made to any TPI . Three technicians had ridden in the car to test it and  try to locate the creak and they agreed that they could no longer hear any creaks. The dealer asked me to try it out for a few days and to return it if the problem is still there are reappears.

So far no creaks!!

Just goes to show how difficult it is to be sure where a noise is coming from!!

Bristol Street Skoda Chesterfield have been very helpful so far and based on my experience seem to care!
