Hi all looking at some new summer season tyres this week but want some pictures of the rim protection before I make my final choice.

Realistly I just want better than the standard 225 Bridgestones

Heading towards Michelin PS4 or Goodyear Eagle F1

Many Thanks Adam

Being honest theres very liittle in the way of rim protection on the goodyears eagles, pretty much the same as the continental contisport contacts, 225/40/R18 thats said the drive is much improved on the goodyears.

I'll send the picson in a while

235's is the best route to rim protection & they have no problem fitting either, the Michelin possible has the edge on rim size.

Your tyre choice is varied

PS4 is currently the best performance tyre although, it'  very noisey.

Whereas, the Eagle F1 A3 is very quiet although, handling is a compremise for exuberant driving

Eagle F1 A3s do offer some trim protection, but not enough for Mrs Dunc.

BTW, do 235 / 40 / 18s fit onto 225 / 40 / 18 wheels with no issue?

If so, what’s the downside? Cost?

Edit:

Oponeo: GY F1 Assy 3 - 225/40/18 = £82

Oponeo: GY F1 Assy 3 - 235/40/18 = £117

Wow, that’s a lot more.....

Yes no problems with 235 width

Strange the 235's are more in the 18", they are actually less in the 19"

What are you after from the tyres ?

rim protection

performance

less noise

I ran Michelin Crossclimates before & they were far quietier with decent rim protection but although, progressive in loss of grip (controlable) performance they were not.

Ordered 235 PS4’s will see how they are hated the bridgestones want something better and always loved my PS3’s.

Regarding the 235 choice think they will look better and really want some more alloy protection

@themanwithnoaimI’m after better rim protection without losing too much performance.

I’ll shop around when the time comes, but won’t be prepared to pay 40% more per tyre.

I imagine pricing is simply due to economies of scale. Less 235/40/18s made vs high numbers of 225/40/18s.

For £35 more per tyre I'd rather risk it with the normal width tyres. For each set of 4 tyres the difference would cover 1-2 wheel refurbs.

Also don't forget, if you change tyre size from standard you should be declaring the modification on your insurance.

If they were not sizes that have Type Approval for that vehicles.

Insurance companies / underwriters should give discounts for those fitting better safer tyres than the ECO cr4p that VW Group source and fit OEM.
