Leather seat cleaning

Featured Replies

What's the best product/method for cleaning and protecting leather seats?

With 3 children on board my cream leather is rather manky in the back seat area!  Thanks for the tips.

For cleaning leather seats I use Gtechniq I2ab, which is an anti-bacterial cleaner for all surfaces from plastic to leather, metal to fabric.

First vacuum the interior gently easing out the bolsters to one side with your fingers so to vacuum out the stitching. If need be use a small soft haired brush and gently work it up and down the stitching and vacuum up.

Now attacking a small area at a time, say one seat base or few leather panels either spray directly onto the leather or onto a microfibre cloth or microfibre pad and work in with light pressure, for stubborn marks maybe use slightly more pressure.

Once wiped down and cleaned to a level your happy with.

I treat the leather with Gtechniq L1 (Leather Guard), this is:-

Abrasion-Resistant, Anti-Microbial Leather Protectant.

Protect leather upholstery and finishes from abrasion with L1 Leather Guard AB. Traditional leather treatments leave a sticky residue which attracts dust and dirt. These particles then combine with the oily leather treatment and act together as an abrasive paste, wearing away at the leather.

L1 Leather Guard is different. Rather than a high gloss shine, L1 leaves a natural, satin look which repels water, static, dust and dirt, keeping leather interiors looking 'as new' longer.

Features & Benefits:

  • Water, dirt & dust repelling
  • Protects from the damaging effect of UV rays
  • Inhibits staining from dye transfers & liquid spills

I like to apply with a soft microfibre pad and work in, then wipe off excess with a clean dry microfibre.

Wow. That's approximately 10,000x more effort than I've ever put into cleaning the interior (or exterior) of any of my cars!

I only want to know what stuff won't clog up the ventilation holes.

No. I do friends, neighbours and colleagues cars for free to relax.

It's very therapeutic.

Let me know when the house next door to you comes up for sale!

I hope your patient. The first clean usually takes three to four hours.

The next cleans only take half an hour though once a month or so.

Looks worth the wait!  :)
