Skoda fabia mk1 double din radio issue

Featured Replies

Hi I was just wondering if anyone has had the same issue as me.

I'm changing my standard single din radio to a double din, The radio I've bought is a "Pioneer AVH-A3100DAB Double Din"

I've taken the standard radio out and the under tray and tried fitting the double din, However the radio itself fits but it's too big with the cage that it's come with, will I need to get a new cage? If so what cage would you recommend? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks Jamie.

you may need to file some of the surrounding plastic away and give it a good shove. it will be a tight fit its supposed to be

Yup, had the same issue when I fitted a double-din. I did write a guide, which does explain about the surround fitting and issues I encountered. Might be worth a search.

IIRC to fit the DD OEM sat nav I had in my MkI, I hacksawed the vertical bar in the middle at the back of the cage.

I had to do the same when I installed a double-din. This meant the stereo sat flush and without it it protruded a good 5-10mm.

I’ve found the guide I wrote back in 2012(!)

It’s been nearly 6 years since I wrote that, but could swear I mentioned about the tight fitting cage!

Anyway, it was really, REALLY tight to get the cage in. So tight that the cage scrapped away some of the plastic that it had to sit inside. Don’t be scared, use some brute force to get it in. It will go.

That said, I don’t believe It’s the support arms that is stopping it fitting.... it’s meant to be tight as there isn’t really anything to hold it in place iirc. I found that those support arms at the back got in the way of the wiring loom and not the cage, so I cut them out and the unit itself did sit back further.

Yeah I noticed that when I pushed the cage in it started to get tighter at the back, I'll cut that middle section out and hopefully it'll fit, hope it works :D
