  • I've discovered a new 'fun activity' for the 280.  Local plod are allegedly testing a couple of Sportlines.  One is a very Q-car like Dragon Skin green   I'm not sure which colour the other is.  They

  • Added some ‘protection mods’ today. Simple but effective.    Martinek gloss black bumper protector from Superskoda and some door latch covers which cost a few quid from eBay. I’m really plea

Now that has been polished within an inch of its life… very nice ;)

Very Nice Penquin and a good choice off colour.

Question is:-  " will it fit in the garage ? "

The wife’s Fiesta won’t fit, never mind HMS Yorkshire.

Very nice. Pleased that it has finally arrived with you.

I also swapped from a 150 TDI but to a 220 in L&K guise.

Apart from the obvious whisper quiet/vibration free drive compared to the diesel one of the first things I noticed was that the front end feels much lighter and thus is fidgety at times. How is it in the Sportline? Is there any noticeable difference or does the 4x4 make it difficult to judge?

I find the 220 more than enough for my needs, indeed most of the time it is about keeping my right foot barely leaning on the throttle. I can imagine the joy of those extra horses but sadly would rarely have the chance to enjoy them. so couldn't justify the costs.

I will just have to consign myself to some vicarious enjoyment through reading your future reports.

Good luck with it.

Stunning! The MG looks fantastic - I'll bet it doesn't look great when it's dirty, but I suspect that won't be an issue for you! Really pleased you have your hands on it at last...

Colour looks great.. My 220bhp MG estate should be a week or two away.. Where did you get the paddle extensions from?  Also what is the tunnel cover?

Good for you! Now, get yourself some day-glo yellow brake calipers.

Thanks! One observation so far is the steering wheel feels different. I want to say it actually feels smaller but I think it’s more padded and the perforations are more pronounced. Perhaps they switched suppliers? Anyway that alone makes a subtle difference.

I’ve not yet detected any hint of the 4x4 system being used so it either hasn’t been needed or it’s just very discreet. The front of the car does feel lighter over the TDI, yes; though I found it to make the car feel nicer overall.

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is there’s no vibration and noise from the engine. My diesel was just starting to be a bit clattery and I could feel it trough the wheel and pedals when idling or cold starting. I didn’t realise just how much though. Don’t get me wrong it was still a refined car but there’s a definite contrast to the TSI.

Thanks! I have a feeling the colour will suit the combi more than the hatch. Like it does in white, IMHO.

Extensions were £10 from Aliexpress, UK eBay sellers ask closer to £30 for them!

The transmission cover is a protective rubber which straddles the transmission tunnel, in the rear. Great for protecting the carpet when the kids scoot over to get out the car.  Cheapest on Superskoda but when you include their delivery cost it makes it cheaper to pay slightly more from a UK dealer with free delivery. I got mine from Sparshatts via eBay for £12.

Looks stunning mate. Really suits the car in that colour.

Proper jealous

I have an Octavia 230 Vrs in the same colour.  The colour hides the dirt very well and the car actually doesn't ever look dirty

That looks absolutely fantastic, congrats and enjoy! :)

Never been a massive fan of Meteor Grey on the Octavia but it looks fantastic on your Superb! £12 is a good price for the tunnel mat, I paid the same from Mike at Worcester Seat who runs the Briskoda parts offering.

Glad you're enjoying it mate and look forward to a fuller review once you've had a chance to play a bit more. :)

Ah, maybe size really does matter then  - I saw a MG Fabia last week that was dirty and it looked terrible. From what you're saying, the larger surface area reduces this. It certainly looks amazing shining in the sun!

It does hide the dust and road film but dead bugs, less so

I didn't realise just how 'dirty' it was until I cleaned it last night.  Unfortunately we live on an active housing development so with diggers and aggregate lorries driving up and down all day, the car will stay clean for all of 30 seconds.   Even this morning the gloss black trim has a nice covering of yellow dust

We also live on an active housing development and we too have a problem with dust and alike. Every Saturday is car cleaning day

Is your building site anywhere near Driffield ?

Darn south?  No, we're on the northern edge of the NY Moors national park in Guisborough.   Though we're venturing to the southern hemisphere this coming w'end; we've booked a holiday let in Filey :)

Funny that, I saw an Octavia VRS in this colour yesterday, and thought "a sporty Superb would look brilliant in that colour"

And it does.  Lovely car.

That looks magic mate. Really really nice.

The 280 is fun, eh? I'm at 3000 miles and its loosened up enough to be licence-loosing quick if you aren't careful. Overtaking is certainly not a problem :).

Thanks!  I'm loving it so far

I can only imagine what it's like when the engine has loosened up.  Even with just under 500 miles on the clock it get's up to speed plenty quick enough.  Though you can feel it almost hesitating at 3-4K revs so once I get another few hundred miles done I'll be pushing it a bit more.   I'm driving down to Cambridge tonight and back again tomorrow so that should have me at ~700 miles for the return journey.  I'll start to explore the revs and maybe touch more, I may even divert off the A1 and take the scenic route across the moors.  :o :)

I know this is a really boring question and it's not the reason you got the car, but what mpg are you looking at on average?

Really interested in one of these the next time i go to change.

Flashed passed a sign for Guisborough over the weekend.  We were camping in Dalby Forest (well...right outside its entrance!)

I love the roads around there...scenic, and twisty, not exactly "Eco" mode friendly :) - more Sport or Manual !

Up to now 27mpg cumulative but no chance to do a tank-to-tank calculation to see how accurate that is.  I've seen 35mpg when cruising at 70.

I think anywhere from 28-38mpg is typical of the 280.
