Platinum batteries - any good?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of upgrading the battery on my 2016 Octavia, and both ATS, National and KWIK-FIT stock the Platinum brand - which is their suggested model.  Yet, I haven't been able to locate a single review anywhere online of Platinum batteries.

Can't say I've ever heard of those. The first question to ask is why you feel the need to change your battery?

Also, if you do change the battery, you do need to make sure you get the same type of battery and have the details changed on the ecu. If the car is expecting one type of battery, but it's seeing another, that'll lead to potential issues. When mine give up the ghost and I swapped mine, the new battery was 3ah more than old. That needed a quick vcds'ing to put it right

Platinum International a pretty big distributor to the trade.

I have a couple of leisure batteries with their branding.

If the correct spec and there is a warranty then that is all that matters not the name on it IMO.

Why are you changing/upgrading? A 2016 battery should still be good, my 2013 is still on its original! Personally I'd only take Varta/Yuasa based batteries if not going OEM.

I get many battery warnings. The dealer has three times checked the battery and claims it is just within acceptable threshold. The AA however came round and claimed it wasn't holding charge.

Tbh, I'd rather pay to upgrade and replace it than go through the hassle of dropping the car off again.

I also expect to get better mpg with a better battery as the alternator will be engaged less, plus stop-start would work more often

Platinum are made in the Philippines and fitted as branded OEM by JCB. Not the best but not the worst by a long way. 3 year warranty is decent.

I’d still prefer Varta.
