Good to see you happy lot enjoying yourselves! Anyway anyone else actually tried the mcquires polish!!

Gary

Nope. Swissol for me :D

For me its nothing but Mer liquid wax (applied in the wash bucket so as to not leave any white marks) and Mer shampoo. Works a real treat.

On the lighter side, my Dad, used to used a Brillo pad on their windscreen to clean it!!, and my eldest daughter (bless) used a hack saw on the rear wing of my old Jetta to remove some bird crap, shame she used the sawing action as well.

Andy,

Tell me more about this liquid wax stuff.

Its just Mer, which is in liquid form, in a bottle. I just pour some into the bucket along with the shampoo then put the water in, then wash down (using the stringy cloth/sponge someone on here recommended). It works because the wax can be applied to wet or dry, but because its in the wash solution it doesnt white mark. It also makes chamoising the car easier too.

Added: the best bit is you can buy it in Halfords.

I was very impressed with the Zymol cleaner wax I used in the summer months. Its not the hyper expensive stuff you can buy from them, but the cheaper stuff at around

So the Mer polish is manufactured with a view to applying like this? Or is this just something you found that works?

(I've got Duxford in mind here  )

I can live without the bananas and coconuts ;)

No it is designed to be applied to a wet or dry car, and the older bottles used to advocate putting it in the wash anyway.

I can now, rinse off, wash/wax, rinse then chamois the Superb in 1 hr. This also includes using the same wash solution to do the wheels, and chamoising the alloys too.

Of course I use seperate sponges for body and wheels, and likewise seperate chamois for body and wheels.

I think a little trip down to Halfords might be in order. Cheers mate!

I've used Mer for the last 15 years. its excellent stuff. :)

However, i'm trialling an alternative at the moment, and i have to say i am impressed...

All will be revealed soon ;)

Geoff,

You tried this mystery thing before and everyone just took the ****. :D

My delivery arrived from Meguiaerores yesterday' date=' I'll be trying it out before Duxford (weather permitting).

SWMBO phoned me up to say "What's [b']THIS[/b] you've ordered now? Something ELSE for your car is it?"

I think I got away with it when I told her what I could have spent on Swissol.

Andy

False economy, If you had bought the Swissol you would still be using the same pot 2 years later

Stuart

Oh & the car would shine more as well

A friendly word of warning - Brillo pads, electric sanders, Nitromorse, blasting grit........all stand a good chance of damaging the paintwork considerably IMHO.

I use a product in a bright green bottole called Finish 2000, it is fantastic and applied with a wet cloth, leaves no swirls.

Am I the only one that baulks at the thought of spending
