Side window shattered

Featured Replies

Anyone else had any of their glass shatter?  Our n/s rear main glass did just that today.

In a secure car park with a teacher and pupil nearby (none else lurking), with another car next to it.  60/40 glass inside the car.

Heat shock?  Bird strike?  We are mystified and £ 75 lighter thanks to the insurance excess.

When I contacted the dealer, their attitude was brutal - without being prompted - "There is no way that this will be covered by the warranty".  Don't they even want to have a look?

I had the same thing happen on my old Honda Accord Tourer, rear window just shattered for no reason.

Never did find out how it was caused.

In fairness to the Dealer they have no easy way to prove how the glass shattered. The law of averages says the >95% of broken windows are caused by vandals, thieves, debris-strikes or accidental damage. Your only chance would be if the fitter discovers a warped window frame or faulty seal lining when install8ng the replacement.

You can usually tell if the Glass has exploded inwards or outwards. I had a rear windscreen replaced under warranty on a MkI Octavia many years ago. The car was parked  whilst I was at work. The Glass was bowed outwards proving nothing had hit/damaged the glass. It was put down to the glass not being fitted correctly in the frame.
