DAB radio alternatives

Featured Replies

Hello,

I would like to get DAB radio stations in my 2011 Superb Estate.

What have you done to achieve this in your vehicles.

Fitted with Admunsen +

Options seem to be whole head/display replacement or separate box.

What are the pros and cons of each whilst retaining full function of replacement or current  display/control ?

If you have a decent data plan on your phone, use internet radio on the phone and stream it via Bluetooth.

Question. Would a smart phone have a decent DAB reception (Aerial) ?

I have a Pure Move that I have tried to connect via Aux, this piece of kit uses the earphone lead as an Aerial so the aux lead fulfils that function, however the reception is poor.

Smart phones don't access DAB radio, they access digital radio stations who also transmit online via an app or other methods. So you won't need to worry about DAB aerials or reception if you're streaming via a smart phone as long as you have a mobile signal.

As long as you have a 4g signal, your chosen radio station also transmits via the internet or online app, and you have a means of streaming from your phone to the cars head unit (bluetooth) then you should be okay for digital radio.

You may even get a better sound experience by streaming, the bandwidth on some dab stations is terrible, most are mono too!

DAB is another example of one step forwards and...

What he said.

Check your carrier's details. Most do not count spotify and a couple others against your data usage. Having switched to streaming a couple years ago, I rarely, if ever use the radio anymore.

No annoying adverts are idiot JDs blathering on about some nonsense or other. Just music. Radio is dead.

BBC radio 2 is dead to me until the sport mad Terry Wogan (rip) replacement is off air at 9.30. :D

gave the new presenter a go, perhaps I was unlucky as the twice I turned on there was more sport chat.

Wish her well though
