Have you tried a broker?  I contacted Chris Knott as a forum partner and got a much better quote than any of the online comparison tools.  I ended up with a policy from Highway who are part of LV.  Their policy was cheaper than the LV quote I had.

will try CK , thanks.

I am currently insured as an IAM member through their surety and they won't insure the car at all :)

  • Careful mentioning Audi in here.    I almost got thrown out for good this afternoon...

  • I'm not sure this is really a comparison at all. The A6 is a class above, it's longer and it has more legroom. It's a better car in most respects too (as you'd expect for something costing significant

  • The A6 has been on the go for a while now, so keep that in mind.  I don’t think it being a class above (both in size and perceived badge kudos) make it all out better, which I appreciate wasn’t what w

Why will IAM Surety not insure the car? I've been with them, on and off, for years and never had any problems.

No idea, outside their criteria apparently. They didn't go into detail. I've been with them for 6 years. This is a powerful car apparently.

They put me through to another insurance company and they quoted £2k but they said if I can find cheaper they might be able to match, which is a bit silly. Why not give me a decent quote of the bat?

£194 for me this year. No accidents for me, one fault accident for my wife. Both 31.

Scott, who are you with if you don’t mind me asking?

That sounds good value.

Given the choice, i'd take an A4/A6 anyday over an Octavia if you can get what you want for the same price. I had a '13 A4 Avant 3.0 for 2 yrs before it got nicked, fantastic car but unfortunately having a nice car where I live is not allowed

Insurance for me wasn't to different between a A4 3.0 TDi and the VRS, although the theft probably up'd the insurance on the VRS!

Aviva. Almost fell of my chair when it came through. That was a renewal price as well. Came down from last year, added my wife’s accident and it didn’t make any difference.

Both my Aviva renewals (car and house) were down from last year.

Just got the best quote with Aviva as well online. Still a lot but much better than £2k from IAM

Just received a quote for £2000 to insure this car haha.

That's ridiculous, I never paid more than £500 (including 60 days continental cover) for an Audi RS4 (which I owned from new for 10 years) that had been chip tuned and had a Milltek exhaust (both declared).

I know.

Who were you with?

I shopped around every year so several different companies including MoreThan & LV - can't remember them all

Not even a remotely fair comparison it's akin to comparing a Micra with a Mondeo.

There's a reason why there's so many good deals available in the A6

Ultimately I recon it's gonna have free fall depreciation being the previous model of a "premium" brand

Having vainly spent years on such "premium" motors I've seen the light just buy a Superb ie an actually direct competitor for that size car

I went from an Octavia vRS to an Audi A6 Black Edition S Line about 18 months ago. Yes it is bigger than the Skoda for rear leg room and the boot overall is smaller - however my former boot liner from the Octavia fits the A6 perfectly. The Octavia has a better and more intuitive multimedia system, but I do not miss the touch screen from the Octavia  - mine kept failing and in the cold was useless.

With regard to build quality, it's very close between them both. Would i go back to an Octavia? - maybe.

Really interesting! Not that much between them then - we’ll not enough to justify the cash price?

Leases may be a different kettle of fish though it seems!

A collegue of mine went from a MK2 octavia to a 2016 A6 Allroad 3.0 TDI.

He said he was surprised that bootsizes was almost the same given that the A6 is so much bigger.

And he complained that the a6 understeers a lot more on snow.

But apart from those things, he was very pleased with the car. And it is a really nice car.

I will probably NOT buy the A6 now as even though it is a very nice car and the deal offered is also amazing, overall the cost would be too much for us. Bearing in mind this is a 44k list price car, I would have to pay an extra £310 road tax so a total of £450 plus the insurance quotes I am getting are silly. The best one I got is triple of what I pay now. So overall I would pay a £1000 more a year which means the car would cost me an extra £85 per month so deal doesn't really seem that good anymore.

The A6 is not that big. It is smaller than the Superb but maybe bigger than the Octavia on the outside...inside they are very close.

People are missing the point that they are completely different classes of car.

A4=Octavia

A6=superb

We'll ignore the fact that Skoda's are generally class standard X1.2. times sized

Agreed, OFFICIAL classification as above, but realistically that doesn't mean anything to me.

I just tried the A6 I had an offer on and it really is nowhere near the Superb in the back , in fact it actually feels cramped in the back

The nearest car I can think of thats equal to the Saloon is the Passat (rear legrooom and boot) not sure about the Avant/ Passat estate boot comparison

The Octavia is in the same segment as Astra/Focus/Golf (C segment?). The A4 is the next segment up.

Not in my world it's not it's priced that way though

I tend to think of the two Skodas as sitting between size classes really.

There's a lot more space in an Octavia than an Astra/Focus/Golf, and I banged my shins trying to get in behind myself in a C-Class estate.

The Octavia is obviously a bigger car than a golf, with a longer wheelbase. With the more premium brands it's getting more in the same space largely due to having a transversely mounted front wheel drive setup  whereas A4/A6/3/5 etc are all longitudinally mounted and have massive bonnets.

Tosh, Audis are front transverse with front wheel drive the norm. 4WD only due to Haldex, as with Octy & Superb.

They are MLB platform though I think? I.e longitudinal.  I think A3 down is transverse / MLB?

Not true, the A4 size and above are longitudinal engines with a centre Torsen differential on quattro versions.

Only the A3 size (A3, TT, Q3) and below are transverse engines with Haldex on quattro versions.

I stand corrected - I have checked and apologies for my A3-based assumption.

Having longitudinal engines with front wheel drive seems an imperfect solution - although, granted, may be better for 4WD.
