Damn,  caught pretty.    That will be £100 & 3 points and more of an insurance increase.

About 75 on a 60 road. Lovely morning turned out to be expensive. @Aspman might get a giggle seeing as it is where the van regularly is on the A94.

In a dream world enjoying the empty road with width for about 4 vehicles or more across it.

Hi George, I use this Android App that gives me some better data than the analogue car speedo...  http://digihud.co.uk/blog/

Good when cruising but like all phone apps fairly poor when accelerating briskly as it lag with the 1 second GPS updates and 0.1-0.2 second to calculate and report the GPS speed.

Will be travelling the A90 to Dundee in a few days and will be wary of its average speed cameras. Loads of these on the Heads of the Valleys road ie A465 as well, stressful.  As I am only one month out from my riveting speed awareness course trying to be good for a few years.

Do you reckon the A90s are set to 68 mph geniune or even lower I wonder ?  I would tend to cruise at 63 GPS which translates to about 66 on the speedo if I am in a bit of a hurry which seems to  be all the time in this pre-BREXIT era.

  • Problem is that we have too many PR gurus coming up with slick ( and totally inaccurate ) slogans - "speed kills" is one, Perhaps someone might have tipped off the American space program, or did they

I have very accurate idea of the speed i am going, i sometimes risk it for a biscuit.

Keep to the Speed Limits on Scotlands Average Speed camera roads like the A90.

You will see the regular users at 10% above etc and some going at over 100 mph,  but many of them might not be going past 2 cameras, entering or leaving between cameras.

I never drive Perth - Dundee on the A90, hate it.

I cut through Fife coming from the Forth,  or from Perth across country if not going to Dundee.

Hence caught bonny today..

The average speed cameras end at Broxden in Perth and don't start again until you're just leaving Dundee going North.

The camera's on the A9, I'm told, are set quite high and an ex-policeman who claimed to know the guy who set the limit said that he did 77 on that road. If you want to do that it's at your own risk.

If it's busy you won't be able to speed anyway, plenty of folk clogging up the road doing 50 or 60.

I have never had a NIP arriving to Perth from the South on the A9 or reverse of that to Stirling through the cameras at Mega Bus / Citylink Bus Speeds or passing them and getting up the roads.

They seem to have some cloak of invisibility.....

Despite giving me plenty of stick referring to me as a Driving God I would not wish points for anyone on this forum. When I got a talking to and was let off a couple of months ago I have learned from this and am more careful as complacency can creep into all our driving. Hope it arrives 15 days after the offence (if caught) then you can do a BECKHAM!:tongueout:

Depends how far you are over the limit. For example upto 51mph in a 40 limit you may be offered the Speed Awareness option but 52mph or more and mandatory 3 points and £100 fine. Also varies from Force to Force around the UK.

Wife got 3 points a couple of years ago for doing 55mph in a 40mph limit dualcarriageway. I got a speed awareness course for doing 36mph in a 30mph limit. Post code lottery sometimes.:notme:

No 'Speed Awareness' Courses in Scotland and if you have to go to court a different fine / penalty system than in England / Wales or Northern Ireland.

NIP received in the post in under 7 days.

Offence committed last Saturday at Mid-day.

At least he was sent to Prison when the wife found out about his affair and stitched him up good and proper.:D

Police Scotland have not much to do with it other than where the office is for North Safety Camera unit.

  • 2 weeks later...

I received the 'Conditional offer of a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points',  so will 'present my £100 together with my driving licence to the .......

(28 days to pay from date of issue as shown above. 8th December 2018)

I take it they want the 'Counterpart'  paper bit so that the Endorsement can be written on it, and to see the Plastic Licence.

Not that it says that.  So instead of posting my licence i will present it to a Sheriff Court with a Fines Payment Desk.

It’s all too easy to do with modern cars.  The rules have changed you no longer need to present the paper part.

Handing over your driving licence for endorsement

If you get an endorsement you’ll need to hand over your licence to either the police, a fixed penalty office (FPO) or when you appear in court.

You’ll need to get a replacement if you’ve lost your licence.

If your driving licence is not returned to you, contact the FPO or court you sent it to.

If you’ve changed address or your licence is damaged, the FPO or court will send your driving licence to DVLA to be updated. It will be returned to you within 3 weeks.

?

Does Scotland have Fixed Penalty Officers.

They still write the Date, Code points on the paper part & the Sheriff Court Payment Office.  Or they did last time....

We will see.  In 3 weeks when they get the cash / money.

EDIT.

Good, i see the link. I will put the Paper Part away safe.  We are in Europe & the EU after all.

Might need a new Licence next year anyway, and Paper Parts....

In Scotland its

Fines issued by the Police or Safety Camera Partnerships for speeding or red light offences are not payable online as your driving record must be endorsed with penalty points.

You must post your payment and licence to any sheriff court, or take these to the court in person. Your licence means either your photocard, or your old style paper licence (i.e. a licence introduced before the photocard was introduced in 1998). If you send your licence counterpart it will be sent to DVLA for destruction.

Use of the paper counterpart was abolished on 8th June 2015

(28 days to pay from date of issue as shown above. 8th December 2018),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,IF this is a conditional offer what are the alternatives??

Usually the only alternative is to go to court. The risk being if you lose the penalty will usually be worse.

"This allows the mater to be concluded by payment of a fixed penalty of £100 and an endorsement of your driving licence  with 3 points, at which time any liability for conviction of the offence is discharged.

Acceptance of the Conditional Offer of the Fixed Penalty is final and no discussions or review of the facts of this case can thereafter take place.

Should you fail to accept the Conditional offer of Fixed Penalty then a report detailing the full circumstances will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal for consideration of a prosecution."

So i will accept the 'conviction of the offence being discharged.    Since the circumstances were me caught on camera at 76mph in the National Speed Limit which was 60 mph.

No win situation “savages “
