2018 VRS Drivers Seat Belt Problem

Featured Replies

Has anybody else had any issues with the drivers seatbelt eating into the adjustable plastic trip on the door pillar? Skoda will not approve a warranty repair, wondering if anybody else has come across this?

My 66 plate 230 doesn't do it so maybe the trim is out off line slightly.  Who refused the warranty The dealer or Skoda UK.

Yes, there are a few topics on here....Skoda's view is it's user error but depends on the dealer. They did mine once but has started happening again after 6 months. They did make it clear they wouldn't do it twice. There is a TPI on it so all dealers would be aware

People have report this on here, yes. I personally, have not experienced the problem.

Thanks for the reply guys, I will live with it then !!!!

Is new part made of harder plastic? Becasue if its not, when you pull out seatbelt high up, it will eat this part again.

Yes - my 2016 Mk3 is doing it...I did report to the dealer, but they haven't got back to me yet, so I need to follow up

Two things to remember...

1. When they tell you 'they all do that sir' ask them to put it in writing, that way they can't hold it against you at the end of PCP

2. When they try to tell you it's user error and although it's the first time it's ever happened in a car you've driven in 20 years it's definitely your fault, ask them to show you exactly HOW you put on a seatbelt. I guarantee they won't be able to come up with an answer

+1 for above!

Can someone show a picture of what this looks like?

Not from a VRS but an 2014 Elegance. Seems a deign issue across the range.

Even the passenger side has the problem of course.

Yes and the Mk2's did it too

Looking at mine above it wont belong before I am sawing through the material on the B pillar! :D

Is this an MOT issue?

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes - March 2015 Octavia Elegance 2l TDI CR.  I noticed wear in the drivers side seat belt trim/guide (similar to that shown on the pictures in this topic) and the guide was replaced - under warranty by Lookers Skoda of Harrogate 0n 16th December 2016 at 17110 miles. Within a year the new plastic guide was wearing and I reported it to Lookers at the 2017 service (22000 miles).  I was met with stalling tactics: "service advisor not in today", "never see this sort of wear before" etc. Foolishly, I did not pursue a further warranty repair at the time but again reported the wear to Lookers at yesterday's service (26755 miles). The wear was shown to their "warranty claims man" who informed me that it could not be repaired under warranty as the last repair was over 12months ago and it would cost me £87.54 including parts and labour to replace!

After reading the posts in this topic, it would seem that this wear is  quite common and is known about by Skoda and their dealers. I've just looked at my wife's 2017 Fabia - which has similar plastic trim on the door pillars where the front seat belts enter. It has a more rounded type of wear - rather than a groove - which may be seat belt wear or may have been dressed out by filing (by the Skoda dealer?) in an attempt to prevent fretting by the belt.

I'm not happy - to say the least. If the fretting causes the seat belt to fray it would be a safety issue and an MOT failure. It would seem that the choice of  plastic for the belt trim and the shape/size of the aperture in the trim is a bad design issue. I have been putting car seat belts on for over 40 years and have neve had a similar problem - the guides always used to be very smooth bright chrome plated on previous cars that I've owned.

No more Skoda vehicles for me!

Hi I have just brought a octavia and had the same fualt with the seat belt mine had started to cut into the door post

went to the main dealer and they also said I wasn’t using the seat belt correctly

so I said to the young lad I have been driving for 40 years and always worn my seatbelt you show my how to correctly use one. He got the senior tec over and he said as I have brought the car as a used one it’s not covered on warranty

it would have been If it was new. Also it would do the same if repaired.

The cars only 2 yrs old.

Contacted skoda and they tried to palm me off untill I demanded to talk to a senior manager he then tride to palm me off I had said that it’s a safety issue and I’m going to report this to DVSA and get a safety  Inspection also try going to the papers. With this the next day the guy phoned me back offering to cover some costs towards repairs I declined and then next he called  and said it will be repaired free of charge and to book it in for repair and to be shown how to use a seat belt.

Realy should not have this hassle for a key safety part  as it’s a clearly a design fault.

If the car is only 2 years old it still has a year left of the Original warranty. The warranty doesn't expire if the car is sold before it's 3 years old.

Just shows the stalling tactic they do hoping your just clear off

My Mark 2 had a frayed edge on the seat belt. I had it replaced. The hard plastics were not worn, I had the B pillar guide set for maximum height.

I'd rather the issue described above than this. The belt is more important.

Please let us know how they taught you to use a seat belt.  Like you I've been using one for over 40 years & would like to know where I've been going wrong.

I eventually had my seat belt repaired

after many calls to skoda and stating I would take the car to vosa for a safety report they changed it saying I need to change the position I’m driving

also they won’t change it again

but it would probably happen again in six months

That's where I'm at now!

I have this issue and will be looking to sell my car in the next 6 months (Not due to this, due an upgrade).

Anyone have any idea on how easy it is to replace the plastic seatbelt housing? I assume it isn't straightforward considering it looks to be built into the pillar.
