Hi all,

 

First post here -- unfortunately it's not a positive one. 

 

Will start by saying, I don't need the "should have left it to a pro, shouldn't have touched it comments" etc etc. 

 

I've done a few bits of coding/long coding with OBDEleven - no problems.

 

I bought LED front indicator bulbs, no problems. 

 

Bought some Twent20 rear indicator, reverse and light/brake light bulbs in LED - brought up an error despite being CANBUS bulbs. Left them in as drove a fair way to get them, just thought I'd code them out. Bit of research suggested changing Byte 18 binary from 0000000 to 00010101 would eliminate the error. Now seems that's on MY12 Octavias and above. Mine is a 2011 VRS on an 11 plate. 

 

Immediately, making this change had no effect - it brought up the front DRL error, neither of them worked. 

 

I then replaced the LEDs with the standard halogens thinking the errors would go and it may sort it? It didn't - I had 2 working brake lights (as I did with the LEDs) but still had an error. 

The problems I then had were

DRLs were left fog and left reverse light 

Halogen bulbs bringing up bulb error

1 reverse light

 

Next day, same issues, apart from now the car is randomly going from having one brake light, to none (apart from top level, touch wood it has always worked), then finally two, then none again. Essentially, sometimes I have rear lights and reverse lights, other times I don't.. The surrounding 501s in red seem to be staying on the whole time too.. 

 

Is this a coding issue where I've managed to royally **** something up, or is it something more sinister? All fuses seem okay, all wires seem okay from the first inspection but haven't checked the module or anything like that.. I can't see how a coding error can physically damage something? But I may be wrong.. 

 

I don't want to try messing around with coding any more, but understand that perhaps it has changed lighting configurations (clearly as DRLs have changed and all sorts etc etc) but I don't see how reverting it back to standard (EEPROM) lighting settings has not reverted the strange symptoms the car has? 

 

I pressed "write" when OBDEleven prompted no change to the coding after changing it back to EEPROM made no difference - I am querying whether this is where the issue is? 

Strangely, my current long code is exactly the same as the long code before the issues were starting, so I am unsure if the code has been changed "behind the scenes" if you will. 

 

I know a place with ODIS that may be able to code my car back to standard Skoda factory code, but until I can get that done, I want to know if there may be any other underlying issues which I have caused, or if it is perhaps just completely unrelated and very coincidental? I'm not convinced. 

 

The only errors I am currently getting in the 09 Central Electrics Module are: 

LEFT BRAKE LIGHT BULB: SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND

RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT BULB: SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND 

RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT BULB: OPEN CIRCUIT/SHORT CIRCUIT TO B+ 

 

I am wondering if maybe I have tugged a wire or physically damaged something when changing the bulbs and putting things back in? 

 

Please, please if someone knows of anything, help me!!

By changing byte 18 you've lost the original lighting configuration.

 

The only way to restore it is VCP or ODIS. Where are you based?

Thank you - that's what I wanted to know, and what some further research has somewhat clarified. I'm in East Sussex, so a little far from Cambridge. Though at this point I'll do anything to have it sorted. I work nights so desperately need my lighting to be reliable and legit! Lots of police around work due to the job and area etc..
