Trouble with rear parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi, i was wondering if someone could shed some light on an issue I'm having with the rear parking sensors on my partners mk2 fabia. When i select reverse we get an audible beep, but then they don't appear to work when reversing.

Cant help you myself but try adding a little more info... Did they ever work? How many miles has the car done? Which variant (Engine, year, etc) Bare in mind they may only beep when you get closer to an object so if you are just reversing, they might not need to. They are sensors for the driver, not warnings to pedestrians, etc.

Has anyone bumped into the car and/or have you damaged a sensor? (Look, as you might not realise).

Just to elaborate further on the matter of the rear parking sensor issue the vehicle is a mk2 skoda fabia 2 1.9tdi 57 plate, that has had a few extras added tp it from the factory when origanally purchased. It has done 93,000 miles. As for the audible beep it actually beeps once very breifly when reverse is selected and then there is a second longer beep. As far as i know the second beep usually means there is a fault with the rear parking sensor. I only purchased the car recently and the issue has just started. Could this just be a sensor or the more costly module that is defective? Any light shed would be useful.

Put it into reverse with the ignition on but car not started, Walk round the car and put your finger over each of the sensors one at a time and see if the beep comes back, My passenger side rear is gone so I stripped it down to find its not just as simple as plugging in a new sensor, Mines seem almost hard wired.

I still haven't fixed it, Annoys the sh!t out of me.

Thanks for the update. I'll give it a try and let you know how i get on..... fingers crossed

Since a recent purchase there could be a lot of T-cut type cleaner and polish over and around the sensors.

A good wipe with something like isopropyl alcohol or even washing thoroughly using a good squirt of washing up liquid in half a bucket of water might be all that is needed.

Tried what said and put the key in ignition, turned key to ignition without starting engine and engaged reverse.  Covered each sensor individually and no noise from any of them?

Hello! Have you found what was the problem with your parking sensors, as my Skoda has the same issue. I put it on reverse, the car is appearing on display for short time with a long beep and after that is disappearing and nothing is happening.

When I had this, a recharge of the battery fixed it. Returned a few weeks later, recharged, but for longer (two days) and its been fine since (a few months). Car/battery 10 yrs old.

So my thinking its low battery voltage from a tired battery. BTW, if it fails, then it remains in that state until ignition is switched off.

I still haven't solved the problem, but further inspection and discussion with my dad who was an mechanic for 40 years suggests that it could be a faulty rear parking sensor and that after testing them that it could be the full set that need replacing.

The long beep is there to tell you theres a fault...

put in reverse, engine not running, put your ear very close to each sensor, you "may" here them "ticking", the one that don't tick is the faulty one.

Thanks guys for your answers! I tried to hear that ticking, but none of them doesn't seem to tick. It is strange, because for example I can hear that long beep when I firstly start the engine, after that if I am going to put it on the reverse with the engine running,  still not working, no long beep, nothing. I can hear that long beep just if I take the keys out from the contact and after that to start it again.

Have a look in this tread - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/462577-parking-sensors-or-parking-aid-module/.

We bought a replacement from here -

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/AUTOUTLET-Reverse-Backup-Assist-PDC-Parking-Sensor-For-SKODA-Fabia-I-II-545-Roomster-Praktik-5J0919275A/32914671886.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dzNaqfY

You might be able to squeeze your hand under the bumper after removing the light cluster and swap them one by one once you have a replacement. Ideally you should check with a fault reader. This will tell you exactly which sensor is gone.

See above what xman wrote about this.  I'd think that scanning that car would reveal which one was faulty, or buy a suitable new one and fit in each position in rotation until the system works.

I am also having problems with my parking sensors !

I have a 2007 Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi

The parking sensors dont ‘beep’ ( They never have )

I’ve replaced the sensors and the parking sensor module but still no joy

Help ???

Interconnecting wiring harness cut/nicked somewhere along its length, has the car had any repair work on the rear end, or a collision?

Edit:- or if you bought this car used, did it have a fault and the creative previous owner changed the programming to "no rear sensors fitted" to stop the fault showing up?

Yes, the car had a rear end bash ! I’ll check it and see !

Does anyone know the fuse number/location for rear parking sensors? My 2013 MK2 fabia vrs when engaging Reverse now doesn't beep nor display the car graphic as of a couple of days ago. The reverse light works fine. Cheers.

Hi all I have the same problem 2007 mk2 Fabia Done 120,000 miles I get 2 tones when put in reverse but no parking noise, I’ve tried all the recommended tests even brought a replacement sensor (not cheap to buy) and tested each one with the bumper off with no joy.

My idea now because of the cost of taking it to a Skoda dealer and get them to fix it, is to just buy a off the shelf reversing kit that is just wired into the reversing light and fit it.

My question is does anyone know if doing this could course a problem with the car’s electric setup.

Regards Danny
