Fan overrun on petrol engine Mk3 1.4 103kw

Featured Replies

After 4 yrs fan started overrunning excessively. Either continuous high speed or the fan cycling. "Unlocking" the already open car will cause the fan to stop for a while.

Does this model have a discrete fan controller (and if so where) or is it part of the fan assembly. F4 in the engine compartment disables the fan but has side effects.

When battery drains to level reporting low voltage, the fan stops.

Any ideas?

Is the A/C working ?

Low A/C gas will cause this

Had low gas on a MK2 and the fan did crazy things as you describe. Common with AC sensor faults too.

If the fan assembly has thin wires and thick wires going to it, the controller is going to be integrated; if only thick wires go to it, the controller must be elsewhere, I think.
