Octavia estate 1.6 SE TDI juddering and won’t engage reverse

Featured Replies

Hi. Our 4 year old automatic Octavia 1.6 SE TDI just started juddering in forward gear, and won’t engage reverse at all. Our local Skoda dealer has diagnosed the problem and advised that we require a replacement “DSG selector”. Parts are on order

I know very little about modern cars, but a quick google search of the part suggests that the DSG selector is essentially the gear shifter assembly

Further searches of the symptoms suggest that the “mechatronic unit” may be faulty

im concerned that Skoda may have miss diagnosed the problem

any comments or reassurances are welcome

Thanks

The selector you move with your hands is little more than a fancy electric switch.

The bit that selects the gears in the gearbox is the Mechatronic.

Your fault sounds like a Mechatronic issue. Your dealer may have referred to this as the gear selector as not many customers would understand the term Mechatronic.

Be prepared for a rather large bill.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll clarify with the workshop tomorrow if they are infact replacing the mechatronic unit

as it stands, they’re covering parts under warranty/goodwill since the vehicle is only 4 years old

Bump for a new member with a DQ200 DSG fault and a car just out of Manufacturers Warranty.

I'm on my 5th DQ200.

Three have required warranty work.

The latest is in the dealers now just over 3 years old. New gear shift assembley and clutch pack. Around £3500.

Luckily it had 5 year extended warranty and Skoda have agreed to pay in full.

I've done many more miles in DQ250's without any issues.

Hi, maybe I should have gone straight to Skoda, probably to late now as another garage has had a look and taken apart the Mechatronic unit

Will you consider a 6th?

1st was faultless, 2011 Golf TDi

2nd required clutch pack at 2 years 10k miles, 2011 Fabia TSi

3rd some slip but very minimal slip and on lease, not worth doing. 2016 Yeti Tsi

4th clutch slip from new, clutch pack changed. 2016 Yeti TSi

5th clutch slip in 2nd and 4th, warning fault on dash, 20k miles. Clutch pack and gear lever. 2015 Octavia TDi.

I may have another but I've never run one out of warranty and never will.

It’s all about the warranty. I should have thought about extending it but when a cars 3 years old you don’t expect much to go wrong

Holy ****.  I must say that after that lot, I wouldn't be buying another. No warranty covers the inconvenience of it.

Bump for new member with issues.

Here is a car out of Warranty and a member that had some financial help with that.

I have just had a Mechatronic unit replaced. Sounds like you might need the same. Have you had any warning  messages pop and disappear recently?
