Footwell lights issue

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have an issue with my footwell lights. The thing is the lights are going on when entering and exiting the car but they never stay on while driving even tho the option on maxidot is turned on. Is it supposed to turn on only when entering and exiting the car? ( Skoda superb 09 plate)

  • Boom! A few clicks and my SE is now an Elegance wannabe!         Thanks to @MarkTB and @langers2k

  • More importantly you have a faulty exterior light, hence the amber 'blown bulb' warning on the dash.

Yes, they're not ambient lights.

No you don't, you just don't know how they're supposed to work ... :D

Okay, thanks a lot.

Hello and welcome, there is a thread  on this site

Are you sure?

My footwell lights are on with the doors open or when the headlights are on. The menu shown by the OP controls how bright they are when the headlights are on, they are always full brightness with the doors open. It might vary depending which BCM is fitted.

@Umberto - Can you get a VCDS autoscan done?

I will get one asap , might be some coding that needs to be done in order to get the footwell lights as ambient lights. Thanks a lot everyone for replying so quick. Someone may close the thread now.

Not on my car, and I've tried tampering with 3 or 4 2008-2012 and one 2013-2015 car to see how one could do something else with them (without tampering with the wires), failed every time with VCDS (I miss the under dash ambience from my previous C5, where the mood lighting was fitted under the dash for that exact purpose)  ... it is possible that some of the cars have slightly different controllers that might have an option or two extra compared to those I've had the chance to play with.

I think you must be missing something @vborovic, plenty of people have had success in this thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/314847-footwell-lights/

If I remember correctly, I think that I:

- Checked byte 12, bit 5
- Checked byte 20, bit 0

That should be enough and then it can be controlled by the maxidot as per the first image.

I have that in the maxidot, but the selected light intensity only applies to when the doors are open - when they are are closed, the footwell lights go off.

Can you drop me an autoscan and BCM adaption map in a PM? Curious more than anything :)

The footwell lights on my 2011 Superb only illuminate with the doors open, not whilst driving at night. Shame.

Nah, I've upgraded my side lights with LED bulbs and the car seems to see a faulty bulb sometimes, it's probably the wattage of the bulb too low.

My footwell lights are on even with the door closed.

Footwell lights illuminated whenever headlights come on. MY (manufacture year) 2012

Same light intensity as when the doors are open or are they dimmed slightly?

I am afraid I cant answer that as I replaced the bulbs with LED's years ago, so dimming isn't that obvious and until this thread I didn't even know they could be full brightness with the doors open and dimmed otherwise

Ah, you Laurin & Klement owners, don't realise how good you've got it.

I'll swap my lowly SE with you for a few days, it'll make you appreciate your Superbs all the more, and prevent you from seeing your feet whilst driving at night :D

It's available on the Elegance too. Mine stay on at night with the doors shut but at a low level (MY 2012), along with the 'moonlight' LEDs in the overhead console and the LEDs in the interior door pulls. Just enough light to see stuff without being blinded.

Still the upper echelons compared to my SE.

I too get the cats eyes, the door handle illumination, and the dash air vent adjustment control illumination is a nice touch too.

But alas, my shoes are destined to remain in the dark.

I'm not sure what my trim is (different market), but it has virtually everything that was available in 2008 (delivered in 2009 to the first owner), except the phone and navigation ... that includes i.e. rear seat heating and automated parking (where the car turns the steering wheel by itself)

Surely the only difference is the coding of the bcm?

It hadn't occurred to me that the L&k would be configured differently.

Would you like to see a vcds scan?

Yup -  my MY2014  FL Elegance has these features as well.

This is only a coding thing, as I activated them on my 2011 SE through VCDS - this is the sequence I posted from the linked topic above:

1. Select control module from VCDS main screen
2. Go into '09- Cent. Electrics'
3. Select 'Coding'
4. Long Coding Helper (if you've not already saved a scan, take a note of the coding before changing)
5. Go to 'Byte 12' and select 'Bit5' (Footwell lights with Terminal 58d active).

What is the exact part no. of your module, mine is 1K0 937 087 A (component: BCM PQ35, H+ 020 0358)
