Yet another 'Hands Free' BT question

Featured Replies

Ok.. I've read many threads on here and although some come close, none really help.

Long and short of it is that I've just replaced my iPhone 6 with a Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
I've swapped the SIM over (Three Network) and basically just added the new phone to the car via the Maxidot.

Although the iPhone supposedly doesn't support 'Premium' connections (rSap), I used to leave it on that setting as seemed to work.

The new phone pairs seemingly without issue, however I can't make any calls via the headunit/Maxidot. I simply get the error 'No Network Connection'.

I can stream music fine, browse the phonebook, and even receive calls which I can accept via the steering wheel etc.. just do dice when trying to initiate the call.

Again, if I dial from the handset whilst it's connected, then it plays and displays the call info fine on the Maxidot.

I've tried connecting in both 'Premium' and 'Hands Free' modes, deleted and rescanned etc.. no change.

Any ideas? As it's driving me mad?

I know it's a cliché to say that Apple stuff 'just works'.. but in this case it's certainly true!

First off, in general Handsfree mode is the preferred option unless you're consistently in areas with poor coverage where the extra power of the car's GSM tranceiver can compensate. The fact that Premium (rSAP) mode can't easily synchronise call/SMS data back to the handset on disconnection is a major failing IMO.

As regards your specific issue, I'd check the settings for the Bluetooth pairing on your phone before going any further. It may be that some of Samsung's defaults are a bit weird and you just need to change them.

Thanks for the reply, but I've checked all the relevant BT settings on the phone and they're all correct, there's not really a whole lot to change; do you want 'Skoda_BT' to control Calls, Media and Contacts. Yes to all, job done.

It's obviously pairing ok as I can receive calls without issue, answer them via the MFSW, have the media info of my Podcasts displaying on the Columbus etc.

It appears the phone or car has no signal in the first image?

If I were you, I'd check the phone has signal before turning the car on. When you turn the car on, one of two things should happen:

- In rSAP/premium mode, the phone should have no signal as it's effectively got no SIM card. The car should then connect to the network assuming sufficient 2G or 3G coverage (no 4G support).

- In HFP/hands free mode, the phone should continue to have signal and the signal level should be reflected on the dash display.

What's happening in your case?

That's a good point actually, the iPhone would display the carrier (Three) in the Maxidot.. but the Note doesn't.

The phone does still have full 4G coverage though, as I say, I can initiate a call from the handset without issue and the call details etc then display on the Maxidot.. I just can't actually make the call from the car, only the handset.

Missed where you said you could receive calls, sorry :)

Sounds like you've already done most of what I'd have tried. I assume the phone is fully updated?

The only extra thing I might try, is deleting the pairing from both sides (again) and also rebooting the BT module by unplugging it's connector.

Yeah, the phone's bang up to date.

I'll give disconnecting the BT module a go after work, certainly can't hurt.

"No network Connection" is the message I get when I drive through a no signal area and your phone is also not showing any signal.  Try another sim?

Well, it looks like we can chalk it up to another issue with a Three SIM.

As soon as I put my other half's Virgin SIM in my phone - all issues disappear and the phone behaves as expected. :(

I can understand issues per SIM in rSAP mode. It should be fine in HFP mode though...

Yep, that would at least make sense, but no.. the Three SIM simply doesn't at all in either Premium or HFP. :(
