Going from vRS TDI to TSI

Here's a quick question (and google didn't answer me)....................is there any way (through VCDS or an equivalent piece of software) you can get it so the automatic override (so if you don't touch the paddles in so long) it will always staying manual. I would assume if you touched the override time and changed it from 1 minute to 101 minutes, that would do the trick I'm thinking of.

I know it's a different gearbox altogether, but on the BMW's sport automatic 'boxes, you can choose a fully manual mode (either change with the paddles or the shifter)

You can't do it via VCDS as far as I know but many tuners offer DSG remaps and some offer permanent manual mode.

As for BMW. The standard auto and sports auto is a bit of a con. Most models use exactly the same ZF8HP gearbox, the sports gearbox just has different software and on some models a set of paddles. A good money spinner for BMW.

A DSG remap from Revo or similar will do just this. :)

That'll why googling DSG manual mode VCDS wasn't coming up with much. I've seen APR tuning with TCU maps, but I'd assumed anything for them were just maps to quicken up gear change times. You learn something new everyday.

Thanks for the replies, it’s been a great help.

Well the Mk3 Octavia vRS TDI is hitting some high miles nowadays and I’m looking at going from the TDI to the TSI. I’m also looking at getting the TSI in DSG as opposed to the manual box my current Mk3 has.

Is there anything I should be aware of beforehand? I’m aware there is quite a jump in BHP and a nicer sound of the TSI, but apart from that and the headlights on the Mk3 facelift, is there any other change?

Thanks.

I'm making the same change myself. From a 16 plate vRS TDI to a MY19 vRS TSI DSG. Due to pick up on Friday.

When I test drove a 230 DSG it was massively different to the TDI. The engine was so smooth, and the gear changes were quick and seamless.

The seats are different, the Infotainment screen's been updated, black pack's now standard and the VAQ diff that was only on the limited edition 230/245 is now standard.

Logiclee you might be the man to ask on this one 2016 2ltr tdi dsg 20,000 miles on the clock  which I have  done 3000 over those, it’s my first auto which I use for taxi work, when slowing down gradually off the throttle say for a tight  junction or entry onto a round about that you would   take in second it goes into second smoothly but  I get a annoying light jolt when I reapply the throttle then it  changes up to 3rd smoothly it’s just that initial throttle application that’s the problem is that because 2nd and 3rd are on different clutches? Or maybe it’s just pilot error,  At all other times it shifts fine so I am not worried about any impending doom it’s just flipping annoying as this scenario occurs quit frequently over the course of my working day. Thanks

Not sure what you are describing.

The DQ250 can be caught out sometimes if you are rolling upto a roundabout in 3rd then apply the throttle and it has to do a quick change to 2nd. Most people describe this as hesitation.

Can you try selecting 2nd manually on your approach to the roundabout. Does it do it then?

Lee

If I let it change down from 3rd to 2nd in drive then flick to manual it still happens when I get back on the gas unless I feather the throttle in very slowly and  gently would not call it hesitation more like a small jolt, only happens from3rd to 2nd. The change form 4th to 3rd then back on the gas again  is fine, another taxi driver with the same car Is going to let me try his so will post how that goes,  maybe dsg needs recalibratd at the main dealers, it’s due a service soon. Thanks for the reply.

Just to correct you have cheap fuel per litre whatever quality it is. UK fuel is around £1.40 per litre, that's around $2.50 aus per litre

I should have worded that better.

When calculated against cost-of-living, your fuel is actually quite cheap.

Our income is much less than yours, and our cost-of-living is much higher, so it's not really a fair comparison to just say you pay more for your fuel, on a dollar-versus-euro basis.

Why leaving the TDI? New TDI euro 6 are not being banned?
