Service Schedule - Item List of things to do

Featured Replies

Hi, so my google fuu is failing me and I am hoping I might get some pointers here...

On all my previous Octis I had a service book where it explained what checks needed to be done and at what mileage / frequency.

When I asked for this book on picking up my new Karoq in August I was told they don't do these any more as everything is electronic and I don't even get to have stamped book to prove I have had car serviced properly.

I keep a little XLS where I show all these checks and when things are due. Not really an issue as I have the two free services but once they are done I will need to check what is done and who does these for what price.

Is there any on line guide as to exactly what needs to be checked / changed and when?

I would really like to know about is say if the timing belt needs changing and when?

All of this used to be in the booklet...

Hope this makes sense what I am after?

Ask your friendly helpful Service Desk person at the Dealership to print the 'Service Sheets' for Minor & Major Services for Full Main Dealer Servicing.

Not much there. Oil & Filter, maybe filters, look see and report, FREE WASH & VACUUM.  Upselling.

Often not in Service Plans or done with 'Full Main Dealer Servicing'  because that is not to Manufacturers Guidelines often.

Brake Fluid @ 3 years then each 2.

Haldex at 30,000 miles / 3 years.   If you have.

DSG & 40,000 miles if required.

http://volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/regimes

See in Maintenance etc.

I like to see what is checked or needed for all services.  After the warrenty has run outI hope to do all the servicing. If I have to buy electronic test equipment for checking the 'foo foo' valve hopefully a  suitable tool will be available for the price of two or three dealer sevices ?

My car is due to be built next week !!!

You might well be changing spark plugs at 40,000 miles or sooner or later.  maybe ignition coils.

You can get cheap enough devices to do changes to the ECU and to check fault codes.

Your DSG should not be needing anything.  Wet Clutch need serviced to Guidelines / schedule as do those with Haldex.

Brakes, tyres, suspension, steering, locks, hinges, fuel, pollen and fuel filters, washer fluid, brake fluid etc it is all just the usual stuff that cars need checking and preventative and regular servicing of.

Downloaded this morning and imo a glorified pdf on the car. Might be useful if you need a quick way to find some basic info but nothing on service item frequency that used to be in service book. Simply not clever unless I am looking in wrong section?

Thanks Offski I will ask dealer at 1st service for a printout / list. I really want to know about timing belt but after trying to research my wife's Seat Leon yesterday I can see that is bloody minefield.

The version of My Skoda I have does not contain details of what they do at each service - instead it has a record of the services carried out. On the home screen tap on the picture of your car, this brings up a screen with Car Data, Digital Service Schedule plus a number of other options (including the full manual). The Digital Service Schedule gives the service record which you can export if you would rather have a paper copy of what you are seeing on the screen.

Thanks John I only loaded the app on my android tablet and have not linked it to Vin or car. I will maybe try it on my phone and see what extra you get.

Just seems a backward step for customers not getting the service book, but checking old threads I am late to the party as my Octi was a 2011 model and this Karoq is my 1st ever personal car bought brand new. Used to get company cars but those days long gone...

As mentioned by Offski it should be pretty standard so I will just use my wife's Seat Leon as a template until I get 1st Service next year and see if my friendly dealer will tell me what they are working to. Should really be common open knowledge in the day of WWW but hey no...

1.5 TSI /  1.5 TSI ACT / 1.5 TSI ACT with GPF is all  learning thing for VW Group.

They know the Hardware, the Software, the Consumables fitted etc,  but you only know 3 year old cars engines after 3 year,  not R&D and running them non stop for a year of what ever around the world in all extremes.

You just want to know what a UK car doing 10,000 miles or ,maybe 20,000 miles will be like at 4 years old or older.

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

over 100 years or even 5 decades of water pumps and still VW Group source crap water pumps, chains or belts etc etc.     Time will tell...

Just got a price for a 1st service at my Skoda dealer for my Karoq (oil service) - £239!  Just wondering - how long have Skoda been using Unicorn tears instead of oil, or is it just a very, very expensive car wash & vac?

?

Is that a First Service with the car being over 10,000 miles and over 12 months since new so Variable / Flexible Servicing,

or a 1st Minor Service with a car on Fixed Servicing?

(9,400 miles / 372 days, which ever comes first.)

Ask what is being carried out.  No Pollen Filter Supplied and Fitted, or Air Filter so is the Free Wash and Vacuum really £100.

One question should be, 'Are you going to give the car VW508 / 509 oil at the Oil & Filter change?

?

Fixed Service cars getting VW504 / 507 at £99 Services when the car the car is 3-10 years old are getting what an 'Minor Fixed Service at 9,400 miles / 372 days.

£99 OIl & Filter & Inspection...,

Is that a Loss Leader of something, as a 1 Year old car is getting nothing extra doing than that.

It's on a 1st service on Fixed Servicing regime. It'll have done about 8500 miles by the time of its service, but on the servicing label which was stuck to the inside of the screen it says 10,000 miles or 19/12/18. I didn't ask what was done on the service, in fact I didn't really get chance to ask, as the female  who runs the service desk is a right snotty (insert whatever comes to mind) as I've also seen her in person. To be slightly fair, often anyone who deals with the public comes across as being snappy as they do get some crap from some members of the public (a bit like doctors receptionists).

Anyway, I digress - I was just enquiring to get a price comparison as I wouldn't let them loose on my car anyway unless forced to due to warranty issues, mainly due to the signal booster/charger pad issue as I've discussed elsewhere on here.

As an aside, this may be a daft question, but where is the oil filter located physically on the engine when stood looking into the engine bay, as, for the sake of doing so, I would like to mark if to make sure it's changed?

Well there you go , had my first service after 11months and  16k miles ,the service was £150 , which included an oil change and new airfilter , plus normal checks , got a video of tyres and tread depth . When i asked afterwards what oil used everyone was confused , then service manager comes out and is asked . Answer , all oil is drained by sump no suction , All cars   filled with 504/507 spec as its mega tank from hose in the wall , CASTROL LONGLIFE . KNEW NOTHING ABOUT the New 508/509 spec .  Think i am going to phone skoda services and try them out , most likley no better ,

I think I need to call my dealer again tomorrow and ask again for the price of the 1st service, as I was quoted £239 yesterday. Call me cynical, but I simply do not trust main dealers not to use suction, rather than taking off an underside tray (if the Karoq has one - my Passat did) and draining the sump properly (together with the iron filings),

Nothing wrong with Suction, it is how it should be done.  Then the Sump plug gets replaced with any residue drained.

An old PDF, but still relevant,

all the gear, H&S ideas, lots of Oil to drain in a day at Operating Temp.

Drain off or suction off engine oil (1).doc

If the Invoice shows 'New Sump Plug' and a part number it is fraud if taking money by false pretences.

Charging VAT on parts not supplied as well.  Naughty.

Re VW 504 / 507 & VW 507 / 508 you need to check if the car was filled with VW 507 / 508 from the factory or not,

the change happened at some point as WLTP testing was going to be happening and the Factories had to have cars ready to be tested at Random

maybe as they were entering countries like the UK.  They have been getting tested at random since the Emissions Scandal, and now since WLTP Approved.

Some engines are just fine without the ridiculously priced VW508 / 509 (0w 20 FS LL)

& VW 504 / 507 is right for Variable / Flexible Servicing. (5w 30 FS LL)

That's all very well if the sump plug is removed and any residue is drained, but how many garages would just get the bulk of the oil out of the sump then refill with fresh oil? Diesel engine oil gets dirty almost immediately, so to most people they couldn't tell new from old. Unfortunately, the above link doesn't seem to work, but there are several Youtube video's on the subject.

Not sure if my Karoq has a magnetic sump plug, but my old Passat TDi did, and it usually had a degree of metal swarf/ particles stuck to it. I doubt very much that a bit of thin suction pipe twiddling around in the bottom of the sump would remove that. Each to their own.

Well that will depend on your VW Approved Repairer and Main Dealerships management & honesty and employees.

But if they are going to be taking the pith do not use them surely.

If the Service Manager tells you they drain via the sump plug and the Workshop Manager does then ask have they a viewing area you can watch from or do they film their services.

Had my 2ltr tdi Karoq serviced last week at Rainworth Skoda ( first service ) for £139. Picked up and brought back to me and a good job of cleaning.

Expensive for a first one but that's the way things are.

So considering my earlierm post , i looked at the copy invoice and details of Oil Service . Tp my amazement they put in Magantec 5w/40 , well i know thats defo wrong stuff , seeing as its on the long life fill. Phoned the service manager on tuesday he took details and went to check on job sheet , comes back and confirms they put the wrong oil in , so off to them again monday to have a New Oil service and get them to generate ne paperwork and also ask if they update the  Digital service record . Dread to think when latter this year they should be useing the 508/509 spec 0w20 version for all the Nerw Engines  and tested  under the new Regs ..

Looking on the Castrol Oil selection website, they recommend Edge 5W-30 LL for both petrol & diesel engines (Karoq at least), annual oil change and extended - max 24 months. Strange that their website couldn't find my reg number or it's original reg number. I would have thought they would have had access to registration information, I had to input specific engine type. Worth a look.

It was 5w 30 Full Synthetic Long Life and now they are leaving the factory with 0w 20 Full Synthetic Long Life and nobody much seems to care including

dealership employees.

Just wait until there are ever issues and some smart ar3e says not using the Recommended Oils or specification.

Truth being VW went over to it to get the WLTP results for Fuel Tests.

Yes , agree i knew it should be the 5W30 fully syn long life as i had that confirmed in an email from skoda services after i purchased and contacted them to say it does not specificly say in the Handbook , Also understand the 0W 20 reason on the new cars from this summer .Just do not see how a main dealer cna get it wrong , when he should know more than myself .Anyway , will be having a long discussion when in there monday and underwite  my warranty , with the specif note they added incorrect oil , Free next service if they want me to refrain from publicy shameing them .

@johnmb  I just read your post that they put in 5w 40.   So is that 5w 40 FS to VW502 00 ?  & is your car set on Fixed Servicing?

I would want 5w 40 FS in a TSI and use only that, but then Dealerships are the ones that can refuse to use it saying it must be VW 504 even for Fixed Servicing and they only use VW504 / 507 for fixed or variable.

Long Life oil and quite a lot of short life TSI's around since Euro 5 TSI's were launched.

We will see in a year or 5 what the 0w 20 FS LL engines are like with those doing Variable / Flexible service intervals or even fixed servicing.

The latest VAG oil, VW 508.00 / VW 509.00 is 0W20 and is purely focused on fuel efficiency with it's lower viscosity. It is rumoured this is what cars are being filled with at the factory in order to satisfy the manufacturers fuel efficiency claims.

However, come the first service the dealer network is reverting back to VW 507.00 oil which is 5W30.

Ignore the information in the owners manual, this is out-of-date as soon as it is printed. Instead, lift your bonnet and check the slam panel. This is my 1.4 TSI 150PS Kodiaq.

Note it recommends VW 507.00...
