pirelli p zero nero vs goodyear eagle f1

Featured Replies

I have had to take my 17's off coz of the v rated tyres so am looking for some new tyres for the originals(very little tread left:eek: )I have done the search for tyres and these two seem to be getting the best reviews off you guys. I have been offered a set of four eagle f1's for

T1R's are much longer wearing than the old T1S's, easily comparable to GSD3 F1's for longevity.

NERO!

I always recommend them - no one has been disappointed so far, fuel consumption gets worse because you can't help driving like a loon with them fitted :D

P Zero Nero's can be bought for £58 from mytyres.co.uk at the moment. That's just £232 for all 4.

T-1r's are

P Zero Nero all the way, only minus is that they don't last that long but the dry grip is great and on the wet they are very progressive - and most of the time they stick to the road so well that you almost forget it's raining :)

I'm buying 4 over the next few weeks. How long do they last bearing in mind once the fronts have used most of tread I will switch them to back and vice versa to get a few more miles out of them

Mine lasted, on average, including track days and Ring trips about 15-20k for a set :D

I have P zero neros on my Ibiza and hate them with a passion. I have used Eagle FIs, T1rs and they are both great tires. The Pirellis are horrible.

Everyone I know recommends them but they just dont handle. In the wet, they slide all over the place, and in the dry they squeal at anything over 40mph.

They are also very susceptible to punctures. Two punctures in a year of owning the car and never had a puncture before that. Might just eb bad luck but i dont think so as its not been nails etc, its been the tire failing.

I have had 8 sets of them. They don't squeel at all unless you are driving like a complete loon. Dry grip was better than anything I've had, apart from "specials" like Dunlop Supersport 9000s, Kumho V700 medium softs, Michelin Pilot Cups. Wet weather they have very good grip with a nice progressive breakaway.

You sure you haven't got P6000s? They do squeal and don't grip brilliantly - also wear badly.

These were standard fit on many LCR's and your comments seem to match what many owners on SCN have said. I believe the tyre of choice for replacement was GSD3's.

GSD3s are good tyres, I just found them to have soft sidewalls compared to the Neros. I thought the Leon Cupra Rs had P Zero Rossos fitted?

Could just be a bad experience as many other owners swear by them.

Incidentally, the Uniroyal Rainsport 1's that have been on my car have been nothing short of fantastic. Dry grip is very good, not very progressive however. Wet driving is a joy, and since in the UK it's usually raining they make a lot of sense.

They have lasted 15k and have 2mm tread left. Don't know if this is the poor (suspect it is) but I do drive quick from time to time and I have over 300 lb/ft of torque going through the front wheels.

You could well be right, I get mixed up with different versions around and have no personal experience of them. My only experiences of Pirelli tyres are P6000's on my old Golf which were pretty poor but aren't intended to be performance tyres and then the Pirelli Dragons that were designed specifically for the GSXR 600 K1 and were superb.

I had P6000 on my astra at one point, they took bloody ages to wear down but were sueless in the wet compared to the firestones they replaced.

Definitely Neros. One of my mates has ad them on every car hes owned and raves about them. So when the car came with them I was impressed, right up until i drove with them. I dont drive like a 'loon'. Very reserved on the road actually but they squeal all the time. Not just with me driving either. And I just have no confidence in them at all. And if I hadnt had the two punctured ones replaced for free, I would definitely have changed them.

In answer to the original question. Is it definitely between those two tyres? Because unless you really push it and are a very experienced driver I would recommend you check out some lower priced tyres. To be honest, with most high priced tyres, you'll struggle to notice a huge difference in grip. Its just the wear rates that change.

I have Neros but I've done less than a 1000 miles so far so can't comment on wear but I must say they're pretty good so far in dry and wet and far quieter than the OEM Bridgestones

Kumho KU31 :D

P Zero are great!!!

I dont think you'll go wrong with either tyre so go with whichever you get the best deal on. Personally i'd go for the Eagle F1's tho, imho its the best tyre i've ever used in every aspect, dry grip, wet grip, feel, price, longevity. Faultless.

Kumho KU31 :D

I keep hearing about these?

  • What make are they
  • Are they all season tyres
  • What is wear rate like
  • What is the road noise like
  • Whats the cost

Thanks!

Kumho tyres are manufactured by Kumho, they are around the same price as (if not less than) Toyo's

What about the new Bridgestone Potenzas RE050A?

I have eagle F1's on the front now, wear rate is comarable to the original conti's, grip is better in all circumstances except traction, I now get more wheelspin, so I'm gonna be tempted with the toyo T1R's next time......

can't comment on the type of pirellis mentioned here (nero's?) but other pirelli types I've tried I've hated (think it was the P6000...)

You must have had the only LCR made that didn't have the PZero Rosso fitted then!! ;) The Rosso's are grippy in the dry when new... and that's about the end of the good points!

I tried the Nero's against the GSD3's on my Leon - really stuff all to choose between them!! Dry grip was possibly slightly better with the Nero's, but I didn't run them long enough to see whether that was because they wouldn't be lasting as long!
