Those are the same as on the skoda update portal with a couple of minor differences.

I've just loaded this to my Amundsen and it seems to work (haven't tested it extensively but it loads and shows in the car).

It works and it is exactly what we need!

Yep the Skoda update portal, it contains all of the maps, but you'll need to input your car's VIN number to get full access.

Following a week's trip across Ireland in my recently acquired 2016 Octavia VRS, I realised I had to urgently update the maps (so out of date!).  When I input my VIN onto the portal I get the following error "[GeneralError, VIN data loading failed (General Exception)]" - anyone seen this before?

PS. I successfully entered my VIN on the portal the day before I went away but decided not to try and update the maps just in case there was a problem!

Try again later.

You can download the maps from the above link directly, for entire  ECE region, from VW portal.

Check the VIN carefully, especially if it has 0 & O in it. I got the same error and changed it around and it worked.

I have the same problem and same error message today

Not a case of confused '0' and 'O', so I assume there must be a temporary problem on the portal. A General Exception error in computegeek speak usually means a problem with the database (being updated) or the access to the programs possibly also being updated. I think wait and see, then try tomorrow is probably the anwser. It's not a BH tomorrow, unfortunately, but that might be a clue as to why the 'system is down' to quote a catch all phrase!

I asked about this yesterday on one of the Facebook groups, supposedly it's broken since the Connect updates, was the same for me yesterday.

I downloaded maps from VW instead for the appropriate equivalent (in my case Discover Media 2) and they work fine.

I've just checked it two using both 0 (zero) and O (Oh) and it fails to work, so definitely a fault.

Thanks Nidza - do I need to remove the folders and files or can I just overwrite with the new files?

Ive seen issues like this when browser adblockers don’t play nicely with Skoda’s site.

I get still errors on my tablet which doesn't have any adblockers on it.

Definitely not the adblocker and it's still not working today!

It's the issue on the portal, not with your VIN. I have the same error message:

[GeneralError, VIN data loading failed (General Exception)]

I've updated the maps using the VW maps and seems ok at first glance eg no error messages and new motorways in Ireland are shown whereas they weren't on my previous version - thanks for the files Nidza!

Portal is working again this morning.

Are there any basic instructions available for the map update. I have an Amundsen system and when I download the zip file to the sd  card it says it already has files on there and the only way I can do it is manually delete the old files and then extract the zip file to the clear SD card.

Just format the card to FAT32 and then tell the downloader to unzip the files to the now blank SD card.

It takes about 20-30 minutes to do.

I always copy the existing files onto the hard drive of my PC first so I have them as a backup.

Plus when formatting to FAT32 I always select the option to use a cluster size of 4096 instead of using the default value - there are lots of small files in the map data and this helps ensure they will fit onto the SD card.

Thanks for the replies that is pretty much what I did but seemed a little too manual for an update but did work. Very different to the way it is explained in the video clip on the update portal. Thanks again.

If you want a formatting tool then try this freebie: www.partitionwizard.com

That's what I use to deal with difficult cards. Works a treat for me.

Help please

Im crap with computers and struggling to update maps from 2014 to latest 2019 version. Typed my VIN in and downloaded a downloader.exe file which took approx 4hrs. Had to format the SD card which I did without backing up first ( yes I know). This is what I have downloaded.

Im stuck now. Tried right clicking over the downloader.exe file and selecting “extract files” and it asks for destination and i select “removable disk E” and then nowt happened for hours.

Surely once the file file has been downloaded it doesn’t take long to transfer data onto SD card?

Any step by step help out here cheers as laptop is going through window shortly!

The map data is several thousand files, some large and some small - so the copy process can take quite a while (it takes around 40 minutes on my octo-core PC running Windows 8.1).

Have managed to copy the file to Sd card. Took about 10 mins. Inserted into SD slot in car and now display reads “Unable to read SD card”

Make sure you formatted to FAT32

Also check you slid the lock pin back up

Edit - frankly VWs process is much easier, download a zip file, unzip it, delete info on SD (copy it off for backup if you want), copy unzipped files onto SD card. Done.

Why Skoda persist with this stupid unpacker, suggest people unnecessarily reformat cards etc. is beyond me. Simply stupid, rather than simply clever.

Hi there

Format default was set to FAT32 but file wouldn’t transfer across. Changed format to something else have to check and then it allowed file transfer.

Read about the little clip

on side of SD card thanks so have tried that also

Ill have another play
