Options you want but with ones you don't?

Featured Replies

'Thinking' of getting a 1.5TSI 4x4, well, had an hour or so spare so thought I'd have a go at building one. Mind you my 2015 Octavia Elegance has only done 14,000 miles in nearly 4 years so more of a 'maybe one day'....exercise .

On the specs it seems you can only have this if you also buy that or you can only have that if you buy this. Now I am often wrong as my wife says so very often, but I thought yes I need Bluetooth for phone so ticked that box for £250 up popped a box to have that I need to select this: Columbus @  £1260. making a cost of £1510. Gulp.  Another item meant I needed to add electric seats.

On my Octavia I have rear seat release from the load area (estate) and pull down shopping hooks, these are not standard but options in the Karoq, so I'm told?

Is there no MFD without a 'Virtual Cockpit' ?

I am also put off with the new 'Keyless' system, I much prefer a steel key to stick and twist to start the engine, I have watched TV programs where a £70+k BMW was driven off without the owners 'key' in under 2 minutes and a thief on CCTV took all of 30 seconds with a laptop to steal a new Merc from the driveway.

Reckon I may stay with the Octy.....

My wife has been enjoying her well specced SEL 1.5Tsi manual Karoq for 11 months and nearly 11,000 miles which being front-wheel drive has averaged a reasonable 46mpg. However would recommend the DSG gearbox as the manual can be a bit jerky in 1st gear particularly when the engine is cold (software fix due by June 2019). I have to adapt from my central locking button pressing Octavia with proper key and manual handbrake when I use her car, because as standard she has KESSY, electronic handbrake so everything is different apart from both cars require you to press the brake pedal before starting the engine. It has lovely Alcantara heated seats, front/rear parking sensors and rear camera all standard equipment. The only option we ticked was the White Moon metallic paint but we probably should have ticked the spare wheel option.:inlove:

We got 2 free services and £1,500 Skoda contribution back in January 2018, seems Skoda UK not so generous now looking at your options, paid £23,500 including the metallic paint option. Today same car is £25,500 before any discount.

If you're looking to order soon then be sure to arrange a test drive before ordering. Even if you don't want or need a test drive you need to take one to get a £500 discount...

You can remove the service plan @ £342...

The Karoq SE L gets rear parking sensors as standard, to get the front parking sensors you need to add Park Assist @ £305. Given that adding the front sensors alone (not an option any more) would cost about the same, you're essentially get the unwanted Park Assist for free anyway.

You don't need WLAN & an upgrade to Columbus to get Bluetooth.

The online configurator and the Pricing & Specifications brochure is misleading, they make out that to get Bluetooth you need WLAN.

Assuming all you want to do is to connect your mobile phone wirelessly to the car to make and receive calls then the Bolero (SE) and Amundsen (SE L) head units already have Bluetooth. WLAN allows you to create a wireless 'hotspot' inside the car allowing you and multiple users to access the internet.

So you don't need to select this option...

Nice idea, scuppered by swmbo. Seems our new property needs new double glazed windows and redecoration throughout, survey showed it needs re-pointing, a small leak in roof and guttering/fascia needs repairing among other things (probate sale) and anyway my Octy is perfectly fine so why change it?

Funny that as earlier this year she P/X'd her Rapid Spaceback and bought a Fabia!

Kessy has everyday use only in combination with electric seats and memory keys that you get with drive select.

For me this was a must because of everyday two driver shuffle and it is perfect.

Very handy I am sure, but still more likely to be stolen. I'd rather adjust manually than have two keys and no car.

Maybe things have progressed with technology and keyless starting, however so do car thieves.

I wouldn't worry, the majority of car thefts are either stolen to order (so highly desirable / high value) or stolen for use in crime (so fast).

Current Skoda SUV owners have little to worry about.

Well, for the key itself there are solutions in RFID bags which I use so stealing in the way to replicate signal is not possible, the rest for thieves is the same.

I’m sure I read recently that the hideous and repulsive thing known as a Ford Ecosport was in the top 10 of keyless vehicles stolen in the UK?

As long as there are VW Golf R's and Audi RS3's on your street, Skoda owners can continue to sleep well at night.

Ok... you are not buying yet but when you do one of the many options I went for was the heated steering wheel. A friend has it on his Land Rover he bought some years ago and I laughed at him... a rear poser!

Anyway having driven his Landie on a cold day, I decided to try it in my Karoq and find it superb.

It really helps with poor circulation and onset of arthritis in my hands.

So now on frosty mornings, I put on the heated seat, heated steering wheel and heated windscreen and drive off with cold feet! Fortunately the heater comes on much quicker than the disastrous BMW X1 diesel I had which took ages to heat up, so my feet don’t stay cold for long.

Yes, I can confirm heated steering wheel is nice feature to have in cold mornings, but it doesn't come with sporty D wheel.

After the auxiliary heater (not available in the UK), the next best method for a warm car is a petrol engine.

After driving diesels for years, our 1.4 TSI engine reaches operating temperature in a couple of minutes.

In the UK the sports steering wheel isn’t an option.

I had it on my Yeti and liked it a lot but as I couldn’t get it I went for the heated one and have to say I’m glad the sports wheel wasn’t an option ...... if availability had been one or the other I’d have been in a quandary.

Useful for ram-raiding shop fronts however.:notme:

How much I remember only thing that I had to pay extra that I didn't want was speed limiter because it was coupled with heated steering wheel.

Who is even using this useless feature in car?

Sounds like my buddies description of his 5 year old A6 Avant with panoramic sunroof. Fix the house - it will be worth more in the long run!

Quite agree, I'll see whats left in the 'pot' once the new house is sorted. As said at the start I was 'thinking'. Just wondering now what the position will be come the dreaded end of March. Will cars cost more? Will they ever get here? will sales be so slow there will be deals all over, nah, I doubt that!

Can't say I would be bothered about heated seats or steering wheel, Windscreen yes, mirrors, yes. washer nozzles, yes.

Heated washer nozzles don't help, since the liquid also freezes in the tubing upstream.
