New owner of vrs 245 estate

Featured Replies

I collected a new vrs estate this week which is the 2.0 tsp 245. So far I’m really impressed with it, however the Skoda connect and WiFi hotspot part less so.

i managed to activate the Skoda connect this afternoon via WiFi hot spot tethering to my mobile. However after completing this registration I could not then update or check for software updates on the system.

How is the in car WiFi hotspot intended to operate, is it meant to provide WiFi for the the car using a connected usb MIDI phone? I have the Amundsen nav fitted.

I found the link to Sashas vrs project which I’ll be making use of to tweak the virtual sub settings and the Vcds adaptions thread which I’ll have a play with tomorrow.

any advice on tyre pressures to run on the 18s, I know the fuel flap says 39 psi all round, but thought it would be worth asking.

ive already ordered a few extras such as the boot nets and a boot liner. Was a good result as superskoda are offering 20% off until end of tonight.

ill try get some photos too, but will likely need a wash as a neighbour has lit a bonfire this afternoon

You use a phone tethering or a mifi hotspot to give the car the internet connection through its wlan wifi settings. You can then choose to reshare that connection if you wish but it's a little pointless.

My fuel cap has pressures in bar, I'm running 2.4 bar in my 18s.

Thanks scotty on the tethering.  It does seem somewhat pointless in that regard.  I also found it only works on 2.4GHz band also.

As for tyre pressures the flap there is the 2.4 or 2.7 bar options which are approx 34-39 psi.  Interested to know if others have experimented with different settings and if the tyre wear has been even.

Agree with Scotty72 run 18" alloys during winter (feels more like Spring at the moment) and use 2.4bar with the 225/40 tyres. Managed 46.3MPG on it's last run of 2018, bet I can't keep that up for too long.

I’m sure you’ll let us know...

Is 2.4 recommended on the 18’s in the fuel filler cap? That seems very low- i wouldn’t drop that low for even for a track day. I run my 19’s at 2.7 normally and drop to 2.5 for the track.

Congrats on the new car, hope you enjoy it!

with regards to Skoda connect, it’s not that good tbh, especially the free trial version.  The only useful bit is the traffic information and you can’t do any of the fancy stuff they show in the marketing material or at the dealers like remote access/flashing the lights etc. unless you specified care connect as well.  There are various threads about it not always connecting reliably too.

The in car hotspot will only do anything if you also specified an inbuilt SIM card,  (which you will have if you ordered care connect) so you can provide WiFi to the occupants of the car.

Yes I stated it in my post above mr shy's, you however can't compare apples and oranges. :) as also mentioned by the OP it states recommendations bases on loads/trips so also states 2.7. I'm trying 2.4 cos the OE Bridgestone are pants in the cold/wet. Having sorted the pressures and gone for a solo spirited drive in the dry I actually got some heat into the tyres and they started to work that bit better.

Honestly, although no doubt very impressive, I’d keep the details to yourself.

That’s utter lunacy on public roads.

However good you or your car are, someone else could easily spoil your day, and that’s putting it mildly.

On a runway or racetrack it would be very different of course.

+1

It's a bit thick to post photos of your car, complete with reg number, "unique" stripes and non standard wheels on a public forum and then post what speed you have been doing. Kind of makes it easy to identify if anyone wanted to...:D

Correct, your post has been reported for just that:

It is expected that members will not:

- start worthless threads, stupid stunts, street racing/drag racing on public roads or bragging rights. i.e. My car is quicker than your car, or versus threads

I'd just like to add that this is the 2nd time you've had to be reminded about this very important part of forum etiquette.

Happy New Year and let this be the last time that a member of Staff needs to informally remind you. ;)

Did the post from EXSeat about him doing 186mph on his bike also get pulled or is that somehow different, seems like he was bragging to me or is this a case of double standards. Just wondering? Seems there are more haters than lovers on this forum so this is my last entry have a VERY GOOD SAFE NEW YEAR EVERYONE and the Champagne can be opened by the people on here that never break the speed limit in the UK EVER. Like Michael Jackson wrote some people need to "TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR".

Somehow Im involved

I think MJ said he was starting with the man in the mirror and asking him to change his ways...

The only difference is that post wasn’t reported (we don’t actively go looking for posts to moderate)

That is your choice, however nobody has asked you to leave, just to follow the guideline that Colin put into place, the vast majority of members have no issue with this.

There is a huge difference between one person speeding and someone else going well over 100MPH above the speed limit, then posting about it all on a forum, it’s not the smartest thing to do is it... by removing your post from public view we have actually done you a favour.

Incidentally people have previously been prosecuted for doing such things, it’s not hard to put all the dot’s together when there is so much info about you and your car on that forum and thats before your email address points the finger directly at you because it includes your full name.

Yeah im really pleased with it so far. We looked at various different VRS' and it was a choice between the one we purchased and the 17 plate press car which had pano roof and a few other extras but was also 18 months older and 10k higher miles.  Im pleased with the choice though.

Also enabled the virtual sub today.  I made a start on the traffic sign recognition but ran out of time today in between working on my other car.  Also ordered some more LED bulbs to fit.

@greg_s Hi! Did you do the long coding for the stereo or did you do it with the text version? I looked on my OBD11 and there were some different text descriptions on the long coding before I moved the tab over to hex.

I switched to the hex view as it wasnt clear on the OBD11 descriptions if they were in a numerical order.  I started to work on traffic sign recognition but got stuck on the second step as I couldnt find

@greg_s Guess I need to learn how to do the hex coding then!

Its really straightforward.  Press the 0-1 button at the top of the screen.  Press on top left to select the byte then on the right at top of screen tap the number and select the hex value you want.

All it is doing is setting a bit mask on the values.  This guide should help too http://forum.obdeleven.com/thread/102/long-coding

Great news @ExSEAT I’m gonna have a bit more of a look at the traffic sign recognition and see if I can find the missing value.
