Lol, u can't group buy this kinda retrofit.

It involves parts from various sources, vcds coding, and ODIS access.

  • Finally got some good news to report - the final piece to the puzzle, the AFS_MDF data file, was successfully loaded today, via ODIS, into the 4B module and the SLA functionality is now fully operatio

  • Amazing guide @JR RS and this helped me out massively.    Just a few things I wanted to add to this, if you are met with High beam shutter faults after the conversion as shown in the picture

Hello,

Can u please clarify what I need to buy to retrofit.

Basically I need B version of headlights and buy these parts?

  1. power module for cornering light - 4H0 941 329
  2. retaining ring for gas discharge bulb - 8P0 941 621

Only one of these? Or two of each?(meaning one for each side)

  • Author

U need two of each, one for each headlight.

The existing AFS controllers (headlight driver) and Ballasts, on the existing headlight gets transferred across to the B-version headlights.

ok, let's put some closure to this topic, also for future references as there have been a number of various people reach out for help on doing this retrofit.

below is summary of what needs to be done, from start to finish:-

  1. swap out version A headlights and put in version B headlights
  2. install 4H0 941 329 power modules into the version B headlights
  3. transfer the 4G0 907 397 Q power modules from version A headlights to version B headlights
  4. transfer 8K0 941 597 B ballasts from version A headlights to version B headlights
  5. transfer D3S bulb from version A headlights to version B headlights, utilizing the retaining ring 8P0 941 621.
  6. do the appropriate adaptations in 09 Central Electrics
    1. Go to Adaptations
    2. Search for:
      Fernlicht_assistent-Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent
      Change to "Present"

      Fernlicht_assistent-Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent Werkseinstellung
      Change to "Present"

      Fernlicht_assistent-Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung
Change to "AFS: FLA: Fernlicht (GLW:MDF)"

  7. do the appropriate coding in A5 Frt. Sens. Drv. Assist
    1. Go to Long Coding
    2. Byte 21, Bit 5-7
    3. Change to "40" (AFS: FLA: Fernlicht (GLW:MDF)"
      Coding = 020408020000040100022355C050A90098000E100040
    4. GBqk7e1CehprS-lATFzxHvuZPD_9Z4X3Xymg-wLz9EvmIZkNM1tOdH1FgLHxM0dZTNjO0GUN

  8. upload SLA Parameter file for 4B Multi-funct module
    1. Data to upload - "AFS_WITH_MDF"
      46744d1562553597t-dynamic-light-assist-vcp-b8dla-jpg

Once coding in Modules 09, A5 and 4B are completed:-

  1. Clear errors
  2. Run Basic Settings for headlights
  3. Acknowledge Basic Settings
  4. Clear errors
  5. Soft reset in MIB2 (Car > Settings > Factory Reset > Lights > Reset)

Security codes

4B - 20103

09 - 31347

As to the marketing talk for what Smart Light Assist (SLA) is all about........Bi-xenon adaptive lighting system with dynamic high beam control (MDF).  Optical dual headlight Module with Dynamic high beam Function (MDF).

Unlike the AFS headlamp, the MDF dual optical headlamp module is equipped with an intelligent rotary shutter drive, which can be coordinated with the front camera and control electronics for dynamic high beam control.

With SLA function, bi-xenon headlight driving light modules are constantly active. Based on the traffic information in front of the vehicle obtained by means of a camera mounted behind the windscreen, the light beams of the headlights are shielded in areas where they can cause other drivers to be blinded. In this case, the driver's field of vision is much better lit, which allows the driver to better navigate in space, providing a higher level of safety.

SLA function is realized by means of installation of rotary blinds between xenon gas-discharge lamp and diffuser. In combination with the intelligent rotation drive of the entire module (provided by the adaptive lighting system rotation function when driving along a curved path) and the individual control of the left and right headlights, this additional shielding allows to close the light only in those areas that are potential sources of blinding.

Hello @JR RS, I would like to ask you few more details about your successful retrofit:

  • which coding programs you used for steps: 6, 7, 8 and final 5 steps?
  • step 7 - the link in number 4 does not work - what is there?
  • step 8 - where can I found the "SLA Parameter file"? Or is this file part of the coding program?
  • in which step and how can I adjust levels of the headlights if they are too low/high or they are pointing too far to the left/right after installation? I mean the manual adjustment with screws. With my older Octavia 1 this was only possible using VCDS after activating adjustment mode on xenon headlights so I think someting like this should be also with Superb.

I have high beam assist headlights in my Superb 3 and one thing I little hate about it is that it starts working (turns on high beams) only at speeds higher than 60km/h. Does this smart light assist have similar restriction or is it activated always? If it has similar restriction, don't you know if it is possible to reduce the minimum speed for activation?

Thanks for answer!

    for #6 & 7, i used VCDS.
for #8, we used a friend's VCP to load the parameter file.

  • step 7 - the link in number 4 does not work - what is there?
that is just a screenshot from VCDS showing the steps carried out in #7.  its not critical as the coding is spelt out.

  • step 8 - where can I found the "SLA Parameter file"? Or is this file part of the coding program?
i can email u the file.  its NOT part of the coding.

With my older Octavia 1 this was only possible using VCDS after activating adjustment mode on xenon headlights so I think someting like this should be also with Superb.

between "Run Basic Settings for headlights" and "Acknowledge Basic Settings", u manually adjust the headlight, using the adjusters on the headlight itself.

I have high beam assist headlights in my Superb 3 and one thing I little hate about it is that it starts working (turns on high beams) only at speeds higher than 60km/h. Does this smart light assist have similar restriction or is it activated always? If it has similar restriction, don't you know if it is possible to reduce the minimum speed for activation?

the parameter file, or dataset, for SLA determines the activation speed - this cannot be adjusted or modified, or at least to my knowledge.

in my case, SLA activates at speeds higher than 40 km/h.

prior to my retrofit, the high beam assist (HBA) would only work at speeds higher than 60 km/h.

so i was pleased to see the SLA activate at 40 km/h :)

Thanks for answer!

Hi,

I'm buying a 2016 Superb here in Ireland that doesn't have the whiskers and lashes,it only has halogen lights(my guess is pre-facelift ??).

Would it be possible to retrofit the facelifted lights to this car? I don't need SLA or anything, just would like to have the led indicators and DRL.

Here's my car to be.

Superb.jpg

@Woodpeckercz it doesn’t have LED DRL or whiskers due to trim level. At least in the UK & Ireland I believe the ‘whiskers’ originally only came in the L&K models?

You could fit the Xenons after sorting the wiring out, adding the washers and self levelling system but it’s a whole lot of work. If you want the xenons, I would suggest buying a car with them already as it’s not really a viable retrofit even at DIY level.

The pre-facelift Superb comes with:-

- halogen setup headlights

- bi-xenon with DRL setup headlights

- bi-xenon with DRL & SLA.

The facelift Superb is a different design, requiring a different bumper.  It uses LED lighting instead of bi-xenons.

Someone with a pre-facelift has done this retrofit.  I don't know wat was involved.

As @SashaGracementioned - it's a massive job to retrofit bi-xenons.  Too many other components involved like:-

- AFS leveling sensors. 2x upfront,1x rear.

- AFS module.

- 2x AFS slave modules

- wiring harnesses

- upgraded BCM module

I would recommend upgrading the halogen bulbs to better rated ones.

Thanks for the answers,

It's not really an option to buy a different one, since I can't find any within my price range and with low enough mileage that have these lights.

I don't even want Bi-xenons, just the lashes :D

Too bad I guess.

I found headlights on Aliexpress that look like the bi-xenon lights but are fitted with LED bulbs, but I'm guessing I would still face the problem with wiring and modules.

Anyhow, does anyone have experience with using LED bulbs in place of the halogens?

Thanks,

Amazing guide @JR RS and this helped me out massively.

Just a few things I wanted to add to this, if you are met with High beam shutter faults after the conversion as shown in the picture below then the following adaptation changes are needed relating to Leuchte10SHUTTER and Leuchte11SHUTTER which are the left and right shutters, these are not fitted anymore so they need disabling as shown below

Another addition I had was that the eyelashes would not work even when you follow the VCDS guide, this is due to them have no prior adaptations to actually turn on the channels. The below adaptations also fix these Leuchte16 and Leuchte17 are the eyelashes. (Below adaptations enable them all the time when the lights are on)

Hi , @JR RS

I am a car owner from Taiwan and my 2016 Superb 1.4TSI is equipped with bi-xenon with DRL setup headlights (3V1941016A), now the right DRL does not work, I bought a set of bi-xenon with DRL & AFS headlights (3VD941016A) including AFS Slave modules (8U0941329) should be replaced
What kind of function opening or encoding setting do I need to use VCDS for after changing it?

Could you help me to give me advice? Thanks

3VD941016A Is not a SLA headlamp, it is all detailed in the previous pages. Needs to end with B!

and you can’t just fit 1 headlight to upgrade, needs to be the pair

also it can’t be done with VCDS alone, you need odis or vcp to upload dataset as vcds can’t do this.

and an older version of vcds can’t be used as it can’t read the 5B module

Hi, @ApertureS

Thanks for your reminder
I just bought a new pair of headlights to replace, not 1 headlight.
I'm not looking to upgrade to SLA headlights, that would require a lot of additional accessories.
I just want to replace the original bi-xenon DRL headlights (3V1941016A) with a set of bi-xenon with DRL & AFS headlights (3VD941016A), only adding AFS function, not adding SLA function.
Wondering what kind of function opening or encoding setting do I need to use VCDS for after changing it? To turn on AFS function normally.

3VD.....strange part number!!

either way, as @ApertureS said, u need version B headlights, i.e. part number end in "B".

also, u have the incorrect AFS slave modules.  u need the version beginning with 4H0.

VCDS is not the only thing, u also need to load the parameter file, using ODIS or VCP, to the 4B-multifunction module.  however given urs is MY16, it might be the 55-headlight module.

i don't understand - 3V1941016A already has AFS functionality.  in fact those headlights have AFS2 functionality.  they adjust to different speeds, weather conditions, city/urban/highway driving etc etc.

how is 3VD941016A different?  i'm not familiar with this headlight version.

in theory, ur AFS slave modules (8U0) will get its parameters from the 55-headlight controller module.

assuming those r the correct slave modules the 3VD headlights.

All bixenons have the afs/slight cornering feature already so basically all you’ve done is swapped like for like.

there are 3 headlamp variants on superb

- Halogen and bulbs

- Bi xenon with afs/Cornering

- Bi xenon with SLA

3VD.....strange part number!!

either way, as @ApertureS said, u need version B headlights, i.e. part number end in "B".

also, u have the incorrect AFS slave modules.  u need the version beginning with 4H0.

VCDS is not the only thing, u also need to load the parameter file, using ODIS or VCP, to the 4B-multifunction module.  however given urs is MY16, it might be the 55-headlight module.

Hi, @JR RS
3VD941016A is the headlight of the China SKODA version. It is a Bi-xenon with afs function, the same as the original headlights (non-SLA version A) on your car,and the module configuration is also the same.

My  3V1941016A  Bi-xenon headlight doesn't have afs function, it also doesn't need to set afs slave modules (like 8U0941329)

I just want to change the headlights on the original car from Bi-xenon without afs function to Bi-xenon with afs function, Just like your original headlight function.

I don't want to upgrade to version B headlights with SLA function.

As far as I know, 3V1941016A requires the AFS slave module (8U0941329), and it has AFS function.

Mine certainly did have it, the only difference mine was a RHD version (3V2).

I don't know why the Chinese models r getting the same 3V1941016A without the 8U0 module, and hence no AFS function.

In theory, if u put the AFS slave module (8U0941329) in ur existing 3V1 headlights - u should get the AFS functionality ur after.

But my current 3V1 headlight right DRL is no longer lit, so I just bought this set of 3VD headlights to replace
OK! At present, it seems that there should be little difference in the functions of these two sets of headlights. I will find time to replace them and test them later.
Thank you JR RS and ApertureS
