Lights on Auto - still need to switch on and off?

Featured Replies

This is probably a totally stupid question, but on my previous Fabia I used to leave the lights on “auto” all the time (unless they hadn’t come on and I manually chose more light by turning them on).  On my current 2018 Fabia, if I turn the headlights to Auto, when I turn the engine off and leave the car I get the warning to switch off lights - it leaves the parking lights on.   I can’t find a reference to this in the manual?  Seems pointless to have an auto setting that you have to turn on each time.

I can leave my lights on Auto and I don't get the warning. Are you switching off with the indicators switched on?

Definitely no indicators on - and it’s both sides parking lights.  Checked the manual again, there’s a reference to lights staying on until ignition key removed but as it’s a push button I’m not sure how that works - maybe I need to be further away from the car?

Do you have "coming home" lights, and is it dark when you're leaving and locking the car? My lights will stay on for ~30 seconds after locking the doors.

I think you mean Side Lights / Position lights.   'Parking Lights' are what comes on with the Indicator down and car ignition off. One front sidelight and one rear for when 'Parked' & when advised required in the UK Highway code.

Not sure which version you have but the time delay on coming home lights can be changed in 10 second blocks in some.

Another thought is you have pulled out the switch (fog light position), so not in the auto position.

Some models can be left switched to headlight mode, and it turns off when you lock the car (possibly with the coming home delay), but if you leave it in side light position they stay on and it warns you so you can use as parking light (either both sides, or if indicator is on, one side)

If you have auto position on the switch, it uses a light sensor (usually on windscreen behind mirror) and will turn on when dim or in low light in tunnels etc

It does have the coming home lights - but this is an audible warning and “switch off lights” message on the display.  I waited by the front door but they didn’t go off.  The sensor seems to still work with the engine off and car locked - in the daytime if lights are on auto I don’t get the warning.

Sounds like something isn't right - if you're definitely in the "Auto" position (with the corresponding orange light illuminated on the switch), and definitely don't have the fogs on, it's probably time to call the dealer.

Did you find a fix?

I am getting the same thing but not everytime which is the wierd thing.

With mine on auto, it doesn't request that I turn off lights at any point. I know this doesn't help, but gives you an idea that yours is perhaps not working correctly.

Same here, not seen any warnings to turn it off... I do occasionally notice that the switch is back on "off", but that is more than likely me just turning it off from habit still.

Maybe there is a sensor on the dial to tell the computer its on auto and thats faulty?

My dealers workshop always turns my light switch to Off, so I have always done the same.

I do as well, old habit really, it sort of annoys me when I drive into the garage in daytime and the lights switch on if left in auto!
