Full list of Emission Zone areas and dates (AFAIK)

Featured Replies

Just read an interesting article on Fleet News listing all the known emission zone activity for mainland UK.  It seems to be up to date to January this year and also includes good details of what the various emission zones mean.

I've summarised the listed locales, their actions and action dates below and a link to the full article is here.

Birmingham 'Clean Air Zone' delayed.  As one would expect,

'Organising a **** Up in a Brewery or payments from the public is something Local Authorities struggle with.

For Edinburgh City Centre it looks like being a ban on pre Euro 6 diesels and pre Euro 4 petrols.

A 2 year grace on being fined is an odd one if it is to be.   So why say 'from spring next year' if there is no actual penalty?

In hypnotic parlance it's known as "future pacing".  It embeds the idea that it's going to happen and gives people time to prepare for it.

I'm glad I bought a Euro 6 Yeti rather than my original plan to buy a 170 TDI one.  I wonder if we'll see the value of Euro 6 diesels go up.

Had myself in a panic thinking my Fabia was Euro 3, but it's 4. Not that I'm mad enough to drive in the centre of Edinburgh. :D

Cheers Ken. I don't plan on going up to Edinburgh anytime soon, however, but that is very good to know! :)

NP. Neither do I, but this lets us subvert the idea behind the Ultra LEZ zone...

Edinburgh City Centre Low Emission Zone a while off as they can not decide.

Plenty Park & Rides, Hermiston is up near the Village of Hermiston, so near the Herriot-Watt University Edinburgh Campus.

Straiton Park & Ride near IKEA.   I charge my car at either of these.

In Edinburgh Parking can be max 2 hours & £3.90 an hour, or £24 pre booked for some parts,

even £40 to park in some places / streets for day time.   Getting a Parking ticket and paying in 28 days can be cheaper @ £30.

The choice of Parking near the Gyle or across the rails & @ the Hermiston Shopping area is pretty handy and then Tram in and out of Edinburgh.

Perth & Kinross Councillors are on the no sitting idling high horse again.

So once in law / by-law people need to be aware, especially councillors, council vehicles, parking / traffic wardens, police drivers etc as well as the general driving public.

If going to the effort of issuing a NIP then surely £20 a time is not nearly high enough even if all the income goes to the administration of it and chasing up the offenders that do not pay.

About 4 years since they started going on about Crieff being one of the first towns to have introduced.

They are very quick at mouthing off and very slow at taking action.

So a last hoorah for some that will be punted from the gravy train that some are on.

**Scottish Councillor elections are on the 5th May 2022.**

We will see the T&C's of the exclusions for 'De-frosting / deicing vehicles.

Between what dates, maybe September to April only, what the ambient temperature has to be, is there visibly ice on the inside or outside of the glass of a vehicle ??

Bus drivers? ;)

^^^

They are the high polluters, be that local service busses, but they do carry plenty people or sometimes none while sitting idling, then there is the intercity coaches and then there is the HGV's but they need to deliver stuff.

But then Perth has been going to be a Green Hub for a long time now, there has been plenty EU money accepted to make it so.

The EV charging hub expansion is happening now on the edge of Perth and you have to pay to park in town at EV chargers.

Interestingly the most polluted location in Sheffield is the train station and specifically the pedestrian bridge over the tracks...   The reason being the idling diesel locos spewing out black exhaust fumes and particulates.

Scotland's highest are near the bus depots or the biggest bus gathering areas and a few streets with high buildings, narrow roads and bus stops and lots of gridlocked traffic. Maybe even with bus lanes.

Similar roads for gridlock traffic but without being on bus routes seem not to feature on the high pollution lists.

There is a lot spouted about buses being environmentally friendly but when I last looked at pollution and emissions info you'd need over 20 people on a bus for it to be better than those same individuals each using their own car...

Low emission zones begin in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee & Aberdeen today.

'City centres!'.  "Most polluting cars" but that is vehicles and there are exclusions.

2 years before before enforcement starts though. So no fines until then.

*Glasgow is different as there is a LEZ already, so if not a resident be aware that it is a year when visitors can be fined in the LEZ with a higher polluter.*

think I'm alright in the LEZ in Glasgow at the moment, being an EU4 petrol. Either way, I tend to avoid city centres as I don't cope well with that sort of driving. Ayr or Kilmarnock at rush hour is plenty for me. :D

@AnnoyingPentiumA year before it would apply to you in Glasgow.

I heard on the radio that there is a Scottish Government Scrappage Scheme for those within a 20 mile radius of the zones.

£3,000 was the figure i think mentioned.

Well I'm stuck then. Plus three grand would be a tidy profit for a Mk1 Fabia, but I wouldn't see such a figure. :D
