Bad day!

you need a blackvue, and if you have wifi it will upload any incidents to the cloud automatically.

I've got a Nextbase GW612 in the boot awaiting installation, but don't have the confidence to hardwire it in and I have the tools to remove the plastic trim and do it but again don't have the confidence to do it or plug it into the fuse box in case I damage something and I have VCDS, I tried using it and screwed it up, luckily I managed to undo what I altered, so that'll be up for sale in the not too distant future!

This is why I paid someone to fit my cameras :)

I've got Thinkware cameras front & rear, all hardwired in with everything nicely hidden and connected to the fuse box.

Cameras continue to work when I@m parked, voltage on the battery is monitored and if it falls below a certain level the cameras are disabled.

People will tell you that hard-wiring these in is easy - but I certainly didn't fancy getting cabling to the rear camera and making sure everything was as it should be in the fusebox.

So I paid somebody who knew exactly what they were doing and it's been working fine.

Bad 3 weeks. Nothing in 30 years then 3 different wheels :@ including the brand new one I got replaced when my wife went off road.

More bad days, potholes everywhere after this winter... :(

and just two months ago I've changed a pair of fronts winters due to same issue... :(

One more shot with the top tires, PS4S probably as I see all of you are very pleased after P-Zero, and that's it. Next time 17" and some cheap crap, these roads aren't for nice wheels anymore.

I know the feeling, I had this experience with P-Zeros a few years ago and got rid of the lot after two went with bulging side walls (one a few weeks old) and replaced them with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s, never had any issues with them.

+1

I had three Pirellis replaced due to sidewall bulges in the first 10k miles on mine. Changed to Michelin PSS's and no issues since.

IME the P-Zero's have very weak sidewalls, (I run the Michelins at same pressure, so it's not that...) and wet grip and general feel was cr4p in comparison to the PSS's.

In fairness it was me that did it, 21 years of driving ultra carefully never to ding a wheel and all came to a belter today.

Aaron least it was self inflicted and fixable, although I feel your pain

I don't even care anymore. **** happens you move on... it's too expensive any way to fix so might as well live with it...

Semi- permanent touch up.

@Ozzy25  blimey, top work that man!

Woah that's brilliant. You're not in the trade are you because that looks like a very professional job to me.

I was going to try my Dremel on it but tried it out on my step ladder before,  and it didn’t look good. That was several hours of wet and dry  by hand. Trying to get the deep gouges out. Slowly getting thumb numbness as I went along. 240-1200 grades of wet and dry. Several coats of Halfords Skoda Black Magic paint. It now looks Matt Black but looks better than all the silver scratched  gouges . Might try to put some maguiars polish on it tomorrow. Heard Halfords clear coat is a paint stripper, so will give that a miss.

I see your bad day and raise you this...

On Friday, me, my wife and daughter went out for an evening drive. On our way home a Merc veered into our lane and hit us. At the last moment I managed to pull left - pure gut reaction, I was just lucky - so he hit the rear of our car, spun us up onto the verge and around so we ended up facing the wrong way on the road. You’ll notice in the picture that my rear axle was no longer attached to my car... we were lucky, I think and according to the police and paramedics, that it wasn’t head on or that the car didn’t roll over. Amazingly, all 3 of us walked away from the accident with just some mild whiplash. God knows how.

After hitting us, the merc carried on hitting a car parked in a driveway which smashed it's rear end into their wall, before pulling over on the pavement and initially legging it from the scene. He was shortly brought back by a relative. He was drunk and well over the limit.

My moral of of the story? Buy a dash cam! Honestly, just buy one if you don’t have one. It made everything so straightforward with the police and my insurers - there is no wriggle room, the footage clearly shows us in the right place at an appropriate speed and him swerving into our lane. It’s sat there in the car mostly ignored for the last 18 months but on Friday it paid for itself several times over.

Oh also, if you drink and drive you are a complete a******e. There is no excuse, it is never safe or ok, you are never able to drive properly, your reaction and judgement is always impaired. We were so unbelievably lucky, the officers said after seeing the scene and the footage they couldn’t believe they weren’t dealing with fatalities. Just don’t get behind a wheel if you’ve had a drink. You might deserve what happens to you, but the innocent people whose lives you might ruin don’t.

(If you zoom in on the third picture, you can see my Qashqai, where my rear axle ended up, the driveway of the house that he hit a parked car on, and his white merc. The last picture is the parked car he hit, spinning it and pushing it into the wall).

So sorry to read this and glad you and your family are OK.  Yes, I'm afraid they're out there all the time, thank goodness the relative had the public spirit to bring him back to the scene.  Lots of paperwork and other for you now and I suppose new wheels 'cos that looks a definite write off to me.  Let's hope he gets hammered.  Let us know how you get on.  Best wishes for now.

Thanks @Oldmansomerset

Easter weekend is slowing things down a bit but yes, almost certainly a write off.  Even if it’s possible, I can’t see it being financially viable to repair.

I actually have a new car on order already but it’s not due until early July...so in for an interesting couple of months trying to get to jobs at opposite sides of the city, daughter to school in yet another part of the city (never mind all the after school activities) with just the wife’s car! Luckily I can actually walk to work, but it’s a bit of a pain to say the least!

Have you considered this: https://www.joindrover.com

damn you were very very lucky, and id like to add if you drink drive you should be locked up for life... i went out the back window of a car on its roof doing 50 MPH thanks to a drink driver.

Weirdly, I was reading about this company (and one or two others like it) just a few days ago, but it hadn’t even crossed my mind as an option. I’ll have a look into it, thanks. My other possible plan had been that if I ended up with a few hundred left over from the insurance payout after clearing my finance I’d buy some dirt cheap cr*p run around and live with it for a few weeks. This is more appealing depending on the money.

Completely agree, unbelievably lucky. There must’ve been inches in it between what happened and ending up on our roof or head on collision. It’s a 40 zone, I was doing about that give or take, pretty sure he was speeding, maybe 50ish. Could have been so much worse. Sorry to hear about your experience. There’s just no excuse for drink driving.
