Fun/felicia 1.6 rough start up

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Im pleased to say I’m now a owner of a Fun. Very happy with it.

On start up from cold it does idle rough. Revs go up and down (hunting) and if I press accelerator to rev it, it splutters and struggles.

After a few minutes it sorts itself out and it’s fine to drive. It does still hunt a little bit on idle

many idea?

thanks.

Yes, lots ;) but it's not worth trying to list them without more info.

You mean you don’t have  one solution for all my problems!

what info do you need??

When warm it idles at just above 1000rpm and slightly hunts

On start up from cold it idle’s very low around 500rpm and you can’t touch the accelerator or it splutters.

It takes about 1 minute to sort itself.

1.6 petrol.

Have a look here for start.

Would this have anything to do with it? It looks like the end of a pipe. I don’t know what it is or where it is meant to go to.

The second picture shows where it is in the engine bay. Just below the dipstick.

Most probably it is the breather hose for the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV for short). It connects the crankcase with the intake manifold (see photo). The pressure built in the crankcase by the blowby gasses passing piston rings during combustion is relieved through that hose, filtered with an oil catch then sucked back into the engine. In your case the gasses go out in the engine bay. The only issue is pollution related.

Thank you.

@as2 - If it bothers you, you could feed the PCV hose that Ricardo's marked to a catch can, and blank the end that goes to the inlet trunk.

If you don't mind, it would be more efficient to hover the mouse over the gray heart icon in the bottom right side of a message you appreciate and then click the appropriate icon.

Thank you's given as text don't add up to the reputation of a member.

Any MOT pollution issues with that?

Not on a car the age of a Felicia, as long as there is a catch can and not just a pipe to atmosphere.
