Safelock not..safelocking

Featured Replies

Hello ,

My my17 Octavia displays the check Safelock message and had safelock working  whenever i tested it, however today i accidentally pressed the lock button while i was inside holding the key and to my surprise i could open the door from the inside ( no i did not press it twice , and yes the interior monitor was on ) , i tried getting out of the driver seat and try from the backseats , same problem , left a window open , same problem , i noticed that the flash pattern on the door light shows that safelock is not active ( flashes rapidly for 2 secs then goes out then flashes for longer intervals ) but I've never disabled it nor disabled the alarm ( interior monitor still triggers it ) .

Does anybody have an idea what could be causing this ?

All the other threads were complaining about the presence of Safelock but here i am trying to get it back , the car had some vcds coding done to it . Any help is appreciated .

Cheers !

I had a bit of trouble described above, I ended up going through the coding byte by byte until I found which byte it was that I'd accidentally (who knows) changed.

It helped that other members sent copies of their coding to help.

Good luck

Thank you for your response , however all my doors lock properly , it's just the deadlocking that isnt working , and it's on all doors , are there other troubleshooting methods to reset the modules  and see if that helps ?

Doesn't safelocking only work when you lock the vehicle with the key outside? If I lock mine from the inside, I have always been able to open the doors with a pull on the handle.

Extract from manual.

Safe securing system
Read and observe and on page 53 first.
As soon as the vehicle is locked from the outside, the safe lock prevents opening
the doors from the inside.
This function is pointed out by the following message on the display of the instrument
cluster after switching out the ignition.
Check SAFELOCK! Owner's Manual!
CHECK SAFELOCK
After locking the vehicle, the warning light in the driver's door flashes for
around 2 seconds in quick succession, afterwards it begins to flash evenly at
longer intervals.
Switching off
The safe lock can be switched off in one of the following ways.
▶ By locking twice within 2 seconds.
▶ By disabling the button for interior monitoring and anti-towing » page 58.
The indicator light in the driver door flashes for about 2 seconds fast, goes out
and starts to flash at longer intervals after about 30 seconds.
If the vehicle is locked and the safe securing system is switched off, the door
can be opened separately from the inside by a single pull on opening lever.
The SafeLock switches on the next time the vehicle is locked.
WARNING
If the car is locked and the safe securing system activated, no people must
remain in the car as it will then not be possible to either unlock a door or
open a window from the inside. The locked doors make it more difficult for
rescuers to get into the vehicle in an emergency – risk to life!

Hello again and thank you for your response , my car doesn't have Kessy so it does not know wether the key is outside or inside when it's locked and even when i do leave a window open and lock it from the outside , i can still reach in and open the door.

What about if you lock the doors using the remote (I'm NOT talking kessy as I don't have kessy either) not the key?

I don't really know what a remote is in this case tbh all we get with a new car is a pair of standard VW keys with locl unlock and trunk buttons

That's what I'm talking about - it' the same as we get here in the UK when you don't specify kessy.

I called it a remote because you don't put the key into a lock in the door, you press a button on it - which makes it a remote.

Have you checked that the option to enable deadlocking is  ticked in the car menu on the infotainment system in the centre of the dash? - it can be disabled from there. Might be worth reading the manual that came with the car?

Mine isn't kessy either, see what you mean now just tried mine and when I lock it with the key whilst inside the car it does deadlock and i can't open the door. Not sure what to suggest aexcept plud an OBD device in and check for fault codes.

Well i looked everywhere on the infotainment screen i can't find a deadlock/safelock option ( swing 3 ) , i guess what's left is fault codes although i doubt it will show any

Dunno just guessing but, do the seat sensors used for seat-belt warnings disable deadlocking ?

I'd expect them too, all the hardware is already in place, it would only require software to ensure this happens

Nope once safelock is on no door would open from the inside not even if you're in the driver's seat

Ok so, it sounds like the VCDS coding has changed something,

Did you do the coding ?

Did you take a backup log of the car before the new coding was done ?

Were the changes made using long coding ?

or

Did you use an OBD App ?

I'd reverse the coding recently made & see if the safe lock works again, I hope to hell you didn't use an OBD App or you're gonna be in a world of pain.
