Mongrel passed the MOT

Featured Replies

Not sure how easily it passed the emmissions, but it did!

Advisories on a couple of things like rear brake discs, front tyres :o, numberplate [cough]

Aside from that, all's good - Time to tax the car tomorrow now I have all the paperwork. :D

Should we be offering congratulations or just wondering how Stevie Wonder got a job as an MOT tester?? :P :rofl:

The latter sounds better. But he did spot some things I tried to cover up, but knowing they;d be advisories, not failures.

Its all good - At least I know now I might need new rear disks soon - I really want to find a rear braking setup conversion though. :(

Jason, that one which I nearly ended up buying on Fleabay had a tarox 300mm rear disc/pad conversion by STAR Performance, might be worth giving them a call just to see what was needed ;)

If the Fabia uses the same solid disc setup as the Octavia and Golf then ECS do a a big disc kit. 308mm drilled disc IIRC.

IIRC, Ross said it has a different rear hub assembly.

The kit uses adaptors on the standard carriers so the distance between the bolt holes is the critical one. Here's the kit anyway just in case: http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?html=info-VW-Braking-ECSStage1R.html&make=Volkswagen&model=Golf%20IV&submodel=&engine=1.8T

Also slightly OT these look like a nice upgrade for the front but you'd need some calipers from a Golf/Octavia 288mm setup: http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?html=info-VW-Braking-ECSStage1.html&make=Volkswagen&model=Golf%20IV&submodel=&engine=1.8T

Congrates, hard to belive following the smoke screen around the hills at weston:thumbup:

Next year give us a bit of notice before it goes in for an MOT, I'm sure we would all have been wishing you well and hoping that it passed ;):D

Good news Jason,

Hopefully the plates will be ok, now its on record you have been advised about them, the chances of losing them if stopped are now increased.

Don't they do a visual emissions test then?

So they found the airbag warning light bulb taped over then, what else?:rofl:

Congrats though, bet you are chuffed.

airbags are not an MOT item, Tom. ;)

Visual emissions? They never took it on the road, so I can only assume they did it whilst idling, and it only puffs a bit when its revved standing still.

I am pleased, especially given the fact I needed it to tax the car tomorrow.

Would the do-gooders moan at me if I said I balls'd up my expiry/renewal dates by 1 day? Was without MOT on Wednesday without realising until very late. Still, brings my 2007 expiry a bit closer to the re-taxing date.

Nope should be fine as you don't require an MOT to have the car, although if you got caught say speeding ;) you could be in for trouble.

It being 1 day over & passing should be fine I'd have thought. Had it failed I dunno what the rules are :D

Good news mate.

Good news jason

You're all making it sound like it was never gonna get through!  Like it's some kind of achievement.... (ok, well it was!)

Just out of curiosity if you had say bought a brand new PD100 and done the conversion would you of needed an MOT since technically the car would be under 3 years old?

I think MOT is only based in date of first registration, so if I'd done this to a 1 year old TDI, it would have not been MOTd for 2 years. :) I strongly suspect I'd have still needed the same DVLA inspection though.
